STAUNTON, Va. - The Brevard College volleyball team (8-10, 5-6 USAS) split a pair of contests at a USA South Conference Tri-Match on Saturday afternoon in Staunton, Virginia. The Tornados swept host Mary Baldwin University (2-18, 0-10 USAS), then fell 3-1 to Methodist (13-6, 8-4 USAS) in neutral-site action to conclude the event.

The Tornados have now won five of their last eight matches dating back to September 30.

Match 1: Brevard 3, Mary Baldwin 0 (25-22, 25-20, 25-14)

Brevard was led offensively by senior
Makenna Parkins who registered a match-high nine kills. Junior
Ashley Hoxit delivered on seven kills, while sophomore
Blair Nance added six kills.

Setter
Logan Priddy was the match's top distributor with 19 assists. Ashley Baumann recorded a season-high eight assists.Â

Defensively, senior
Bailey Lance led all players with 16 digs. Middle blocker
Jaxson Tumicki recorded three blocks, while Parkins added two blocks.

The service game was once again strong for Brevard as the Tornados registered 10 aces as a team. Hoxit led the way with four service aces, while Priddy and senior
Caitlin Hagarty each recorded two aces.

In set one, the two teams were tied several times culminating with a 22-22 deadlock. Brevard however came through in crunchtime with three consecutive points on a block by Tumicki, a kill by Parkins and an ace by Hoxit to take the 25-22 set win.

Back-to-back kills by Parkins and Hoxit followed a winner by
Lili White to finish off the second set 25-20. BC cruised from there, taking the third set 25-14 to sweep the match.

Match 2: Mary Baldwin 3, Brevard 1 (25-28, 25-20, 22-25, 25-15)

Parkins and Hoxit again led the BC attack with 15 and 11 kills respectively in match two of the day against Mary Baldwin.

Priddy (18 assists) and Baumann (14 assists) were the top distributors once again as well with Hagarty adding a pair of assists.

Defensively, Lance (13) and Parkins (9) combined for 22 digs. At the net, Tumicki came up with two blocks to add to her total.

BC registered eight aces in the second match of the day with Lance once again leading the way with four. Parkins served a pair of aces as well to go along with one ace apiece by Hagarty and Baumann.

Trailing 0-2, Brevard pulled out a 25-22 win with a strong third set capped off by a block by Nance on set point. The Monarchs however answered with a 25-15 victory in the fourth set to take the match.

Brevard returns to action on Tuesday with a home match vs. conference foe Salem at the Boshamer Gymnasium. First serve is set for 6 p.m.
