Tornados Hold Off Pride for 1-0 Road Conference W

Rodrigo Garcia's First Collegiate Goal Lifts Brevard to One-Goal Victory

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Rodrigo García put his first career goal into the back of the net in the 52nd minute, and the Brevard College (5-6-2, 3-1-1 USA South) defense held Greensboro College (0-13, 0-5 USAS) off the scoresheet as the Tornados men's soccer team earned a 1-0 victory on Wednesday evening in Greensboro, North Carolina.

The victory marked BC's second historically against the Pride, as both sides last met in the first round of the 2022 USA South Conference Tournament in a draw that BC advanced on penalty kicks.

Garcia, a junior from São Paulo, Brazil, earned his first collegiate goal in the 52nd minute of play and notched the eventual game-winner as BC's defense held the Pride without a goal to notch its third clean sheet of the season.

Sophomore goalkeeper Matheus Rossi and BC's starting defense of Rocco Barbon, Tom Dussauge, Sam O'Callaghan, and Luis Portillo with contributions from Hayden Domingo, Adan Miller, and Daniel Morgan held the hosts without a goal. Rossi made a total of seven saves in the match, which is a season-high for the Vitoria, Espírito Santo, Brazil native.

Igor da Silva and Jose Felipe Garces each took a team-best three shot attempts, while O'Callaghan took two. The Tornados held a commanding 10-2 shot advantage in the first half, but Greensboro was able to rally in the second period with an 8-1 shooting margin in the second period as BC narrowly out-shot the hosts, 11-10. Impressively, Brevard scored on its only shot attempt of the second half of play.

Greensboro's Axel García-Avila took a team-high three shot attempts, while GC keeper Cristian Del Cid Portillo stopped six shots in the narrow loss.

The Tornados will celebrate their senior class on Saturday for Senior Day, as Brevard matches up with Methodist University at Ives-Lemuel Family Field at 3:30 p.m.
