TOCCOA, Ga. - The Brevard College women's soccer team (9-4-2) finished off a 5-0 victory over Toccoa Falls College (7-4) on Wednesday afternoon in Toccoa, Georgia, in a match that originally begun on Saturday, September 9 at Ives-Lemel Family Field in Brevard, North Carolina.
After a two-hour lightning delay just before the start of the second half, the match was officially halted, slated to resume this Wednesday in Toccoa to conclude the second half of action.
Before the match was halted, Brevard was dominant in all facets of action, as the Tornados totaled four goals in the first half of play. Senior forward
Grace Black scored two goals in 12 minutes off assists from
Abby Mayer,
Kiara Porcelli, and
Taylor Richardson to give BC the early cushion.
Gina Drouse logged her first career assist on a pass to
Tae Brown that made the score 3-0, and
Austin Huffman drew and converted a penalty kick for her first career Tornado goal.
Brevard was outshooting the Screaming Eagles by an 11-0 tally ahead of the intermission.
Black got things going in the 10th minute of play, as Richardson played in a cross that found Mayer, who then played the ball through to Black who connected with the right side of the goal to give BC the 1-0 edge.
Just two minutes later, Black once again was able to find the back of the net, as Porcelli was able to gain possession from a Screaming Eagle defender and play the ball through to Black, who took a touch and ripped the ball into the left-hand corner of goal to double BC's lead, 2-0.
Brown scored BC's third goal of the first half when Drouse played a deep ball that skipped past the defense and found the Tornado attacker, who finished comfortably in the 27th minute as Brevard extended its advantage, 3-0.
Huffman drew a foul in the opposing box and was awarded a penalty kick in the 31st minute. Juan Mascaro Sr. elected to have Huffman take the penalty that she drew, and the freshman delivered with a strike that put the Tornados up big ahead of the halftime break, 4-0.
Following the resumption of the match, Brevard kept on applying pressure on the Screaming Eagle defense. Brown drew a foul in the penalty box and
Camdyn Pacheco took the attempt, but it hit off the right post.
BC found the back of the net in the 86th minute as Huffman scored off an assist from
Emma Murray, as her shot took a deflection off a Toccoa defender and nestled into the back of the net.
Brevard will return home for Senior Day on Saturday as the Tornados take on Mary Baldwin University at 1 p.m.
