Pressley Notches Triple Double on Senior Day for BC Volleyball

Tornados Honor Six-Member Senior Class, Fall in Four Sets to Meredith

BREVARD, N.C. – The Brevard College volleyball team (8-13, 5-8 USA South) dropped a tight four-set match to Meredith College (18-6, 12-2 USAS) (25-27, 25-22, 23-25, 17-25) on Saturday afternoon at the Boshamer Gymnasium. The Tornados celebrated their six-member Senior class in a special pre-match ceremony – Caitlin Hagarty, Bailey Lance, Caelyn Murphy, Makenna Parkins, Kaitlyn Pressley, and Logan Priddy were all honored.

Pressley, a senior setter and right-side hitter from Brevard, North Carolina, added yet another triple-double to her illustrious Tornado career, as she totaled a team-high 14 kills alongside 19 assists and 15 digs. Fellow senior Parkins added 12 kills and 17 digs for a double-double, while senior Lance had a team-high 26 digs. Priddy, a junior graduating a year early from Greensboro, North Carolina, distributed a team-best 22 assists, while Ashley Hoxit added 12 kills and nine digs and Blair Nance drove home seven kills.

The Tornados were able to battle hard in a thrilling first set that featured nine ties and five lead changes, but ultimately fell 27-25. BC had originally held a 7-1 advantage to open the set up, but Meredith pulled back to tie things up at 9-9. Brevard held a four-point lead in the later stages, 18-14, and found set point up 24-21 following a Hoxit kill. However, the visitors scored six of the next seven points to flip the script in the first set and take a 27-25 set win.

A highly-entertaining second set ensued that showcased 12 tied scores and five lead changes. BC took a two-point advantage, 20-18, following a ball-handing error and attack error from Methodist. With the score level at 22-all, Hoxit tallied a kill that was followed by consecutive service aces by Priddy, leveling up the match 1-1.

Brevard was able to open up a 14-10 advantage in the third set, but Meredith battled back for the 20-18 set lead. Parkins and Nance logged kills to tie the set back up, but the Avenging Angels rallied for a crucial third-set point at 24-22. BC pulled back within one point after a Meredith attack error, but Sara Dees drove home the set-winning kill as the visitors clinched a 2-1 match lead.

Meredith cruised in the fourth set, defeating Brevard 25-17 to wrap up the conference win.
