Tornados Wrap Up Unbeaten Home Regular Season with 1-0 Win Over Wildcats

Brevard Finishes Home Regular Season Slate with 8-0-1 Record

BREVARD, N.C. - The Brevard College women's soccer program (11-4-2) wrapped up the first unbeaten home regular season in its history with a 1-0 victory over Johnson and Wales Charlotte (6-5-3) on Tuesday night at Ives-Lemel Family Field.

BC concludes its home regular seasons schedule with an 8-0-1 mark, making the 2023 Tornados the first team in the NCAA era to go unbeaten at home.

Freshman midfielder Austin Huffman scored the eventual game-winner in the ninth minute, putting away the fourth goal of her first collegiate season. The play was kickstarted by fellow freshman goalkeeper Abby Nunez, who played a long ball overtop the JWU defense to senior forward Abby Mayer, who played the ball through to Huffman for the goal. The assist marked Mayer's fourth of 2023, while Nunez notched her first collegiate assist with the big boot, while logging her fourth total shutout of 2023 (three solo, one combined) with a three-save performance.

BC held a commanding 29-6 shot edge in the game, including a dominant 22-3 second-half onslaught of shot attempts. Mikayla Zvekan took a game-high five shots, while four different Tornados reached the four-shot mark - Grace Black, Huffman, Mayer, and Kiara Porcelli. Brevard controlled second half possession with five corner kick attempts in the second period.

JWU's goalkeeper Zoe Balmer made 12 saves in the match to keep the Wildcats within striking distance.

BC improves to a 3-0-1 unbeaten all-time mark against the Wildcats with the victory.

The Tornados will now gear up for a pivotal season-finale on the road on Saturday against William Peace University at 12 p.m. in Cary, North Carolina.
