Brevard Sprints Past Pfeiffer 4-2

Ryan Lynch Racks Up Six Points in Conference Win

MISENHEIMER, N.C. - The Brevard College men's soccer team (3-4-2, 1-0-1 USA South) earned its first USA South Conference victory of the 2023 season as the Tornados scored a season-high four goals to defeat Pfeiffer University (3-5-1, 0-2 USAS) 4-2 on Wednesday evening in Misenheimer, North Carolina.

The win brought Brevard's all-time series record to 6-4-1 over the Falcons. BC has now won four consecutive matches over Pfeiffer.

Senior forward Ryan Lynch scored a pair of goals and added two assists for a six-point performance, bringing his season total to seven goals, two assists, and 16 points.

Junior defender Rocco Barbon and sophomore Daniel Morgan each scored goals as well for the Tornados, while reigning USA South Defender of the Week Matheus Rossi started the match and played 68 minutes. Samuel Izquierdo played the final 22 minutes as the freshman made his second appearance of the season.

The Tornados were able to get on the board first, after a Tom Dussauge shot attempt was blocked resulting in a corner kick. Lynch lined up the corner and delivered a ball to Barbon, who finished the chance to give Brevard an early 1-0 lead in the ninth minute.

Pfeiffer wasted no time responding, however, as Mateo Lata fired a shot into the upper-right corner off an assist from Asuncio Gonzalez, leveling the score just two minutes later.

Lynch, the program's NCAA era leader in goals and points, found the back of the net on a free kick in the 32nd minute and gave Brevard the lead back, 2-1.

Sophomore Daniel Morgan scored his first goal of the season in the 41st minute on Lynch's second assist of the evening to give the Tornados a 3-1 edge that they took into halftime.

Lynch put in a penalty kick in the 70th minute following a foul in the box to extend the Tornado lead even further, as BC took a 4-1 advantage. Gonzalez scored his second goal of the evening on a rebound off a penalty kick for the Falcons in the 78th minute, but the Tornados held Pfeiffer out of goal for the final 12 minutes to wrap up the two-goal win.

Brevard will look to continue its winning ways when the Tornados play host to Mary Baldwin University on Sunday at 1 p.m. at Ives-Lemel Family Field.
