BREVARD, N.C. - The Brevard College men's basketball team (2-3) won its second-straight contest, as the Tornados used a big first half to establish a 14-point, 41-27 halftime lead as BC went on to take a 84-70 victory over Warren Wilson College (0-4) on Tuesday evening at the Boshamer Gymnasium.
Sophomore forward Jadon Carnes led all scorers with 18 points on 7-of-11 shooting from the field and a pair of 3-pointers made. Graduate guard Quincy Carter added 16 points, five boards, and three steals, while Kavan Horton added nine points and a team-best five assists.
Charles Reed, a senior guard from Concord, North Carolina, scored nine points as well while adding a career-high seven steals in a dominant defensive effort. The tally marked the most steals in a single game since Nathan Whitmire's seven-steal performance on February 27, 2010 against Catawba, and the mark is the second-most single-game steals in the program's NCAA era (Jonathan Whitston, eight steals, Feb. 13, 2008). Charlie Hester added eight points, five rebounds, and matched Horton's total with five assists.
Three Owls reached double figures in scoring, led by Yoshi Kendrick and Dylan Wheatley who each registered 17 points each. Antonio Banuelos added 14 points and eight rebounds.
BC's defense forced 14 Warren Wilson turnovers and turned those miscues into 20 total points. Brevard outscored WWC 50-38 in the paint, outpaced the Owls on the break 25-16, and BC's bench put up 26 points compared to 12 from Warren Wilson.
With the Tornados holding a slim three-point edge, 24-21, BC closed out the first half on a 17-6 run to take a 14-point lead at the break. Brevard extended its lead up to 18 points midway through the second half, as BC closed out the non-conference 14-point victory, 84-70.
Brevard will seek to make it three in a row as the Tornados travel to Atlanta following Thanksgiving break on Tuesday, November 28 to battle Oglethorpe University at 7 p.m.
