RALEIGH, N.C. - Senior forward Makenna Parkins matched her career high of 27 points while four Tornados scored in double figures in a dominant 92-66 victory over William Peace on Saturday in Raleigh, North Carolina.
Parkins, a senior from Marion, North Carolina, matched her career-best mark set on February 6, 2022 vs. Agnes Scott. The senior made 10 field goals with a three-pointer and six free throws while grabbing 10 rebounds for a double-double and also totaled four assists and a team-best four steals.
Junior guard Josie Hester hit six 3-pointers en route to a 19-point performance, while sophomore Olivia Miller added 16 points, five rebounds, and a team-high five assists. Jada Perry-Wilkins was the fourth Tornado to score in double figures, racking up 11 points in the winning effort. Makayla Street added eight points and nine rebounds for Brevard, whose bench outscored WPU's 26-5.
Brevard and William Peace were deadlocked 16-16 following the first quarter, but a 30-point second quarter allowed the Tornados to take an eight-point lead, 46-38 at the intermission. BC broke the game open in the second half, outscoring the Pacers by seven in the third period, 18-11, to take a 15-point advantage into the fourth period. A dominant 28-17 margin in the final quarter capped off the 26-point win for the Tornados.
The Pacers had three double-digit scorers of their own, as Tanaesha Ellison (23 points, 12 rebounds) and Nautica Smiley (21 points) both eclipsed the 20-point mark and Allye Woodruff added 12 points.
Brevard edged WPU from the field, 44% to 37% and the Tornados hit 10 3-pointers in the contest. BC outrebounded WPU 48-39, and scored 18 second-chance buckets. Additionally, the Tornados assisted on 20 of their 35 total field goals on their way to a season-high 92 points.
The Tornados will take just under three weeks off of game action before concluding the 2023 calendar year with an exhibition at NCAA DI UNC Asheville on Friday, December 29 at 5 p.m.
