BREVARD, N.C. – The Brevard College men's soccer team hosted Montreat College on Saturday evening at Ives-Lemel Family Field to conclude the preseason with an exhibition contest ahead of the 2023 regular season. The Cavaliers and Tornados played to a 3-3 draw in the matchup of the two Western North Carolina institutions.
Senior forward
Ryan Lynch, BC's NCAA-era career and single-season record holder for goals scored, capped off his preseason with a two-goal effort – with both scores coming in the second half of play. Junior defender
Rocco Barbon put in a beautiful bicycle kick in the first half off a
Sam O'Callaghan set piece, while
Tom Dussauge and
Will Finney also logged assists in the contest.
Montreat's goal-scorers included Vincente Cardoso, Zeljko Stanojevic, and Jeremy Villa-Osornio. MC's Marius Braedstrup-Holm made four saves in the contest.
A total of 24 Tornados saw action in the exhibition contest, including a pair of goalkeepers. Sophomore keeper
Matheus Rossi played the first half with one save on his ledger, while freshman
Samuel Izquierdo manned the sticks in the second stanza, making a total of two saves.
BC slightly outshot Montreat 16-13, while the Cavaliers took nine corner kicks to Brevard's two. A total of six cautions were issued in the game.
The defending USA South Conference Tournament Champion Tornados will begin the 2023 regular season on Friday, September 1 when BC takes on Bob Jones University at 7 p.m. at Ives-Lemel Family Field.
