Late Bruin Goal Sends Season Opener to 1-1 Draw for Tornados

Lynch Kicks off 2023 by Scoring 23rd Career Goal

BREVARD, N.C. – After the program's NCAA-era goal-scoring record holder Ryan Lynch opened his senior campaign by breaking a scoreless tie in the 48th minute, the Brevard College men's soccer team (0-0-1) conceded in the 86th minute to Bob Jones University (0-0-1) as the season opener finished in a 1-1 draw on Friday evening at Ives-Lemel Family Field.
The contest was tight throughout, as both sides battled for possession and scoring opportunities. Bob Jones was able to outshoot the Tornados 9-4 with sophomore keeper Matheus Rossi making two of BC's three saves. Lynch's goal came off a dispossession as the Charlotte, North Carolina native dribbled down the right side, cut back to his left to evade a defender and fired a left-footed shot into the lower left corner. The score marked Lynch's 23rd of his illustrious Tornado career.

Bob Jones' late answer came off a throw-in near the corner, as the throw from Jake Provenzano skipped through the Tornado defense and found Hodari Twishime, who evaded defenders and finished with a powerful right-footed strike, leveling things up late.

Five cautions were issued in the hotly-contested match, with the visitors receiving four. Lynch fired off two of BC's four shots, with Igor da Silva and Marcos Silva registering BC's other two chances on frame.

A total of 19 Tornados saw action in the season opener, with newcomers Colin McCabe and Santiago Romero making their first career Tornado starts alongside junior forward Lamont Young Jr., who also picked up his first action with BC's first team. Judah Myers and Luis Portillo also made their Tornado debuts as substitutes.

The Tornados will look to enter the win column as they turn around and head to Berea, Kentucky to face Berea College on Sunday, with kickoff slated for 4 p.m.
