MOUNT BERRY, Ga. - The Brevard College women's soccer team (0-1) fell 3-0 to open its 2023 season on the road to host Berry College (1-0).
The Tornados managed seven shots in the contest, led offensively by senior striker
Abby Mayer who fired off three shots, all on goal. Freshman
Hilary Schmitz, in her first collegiate match, registered two shots with one on goal. Sophomore
Kiara Porcelli and senior
Tae Brown each recorded shots as well.
Berry was led by Christina Marijanich who scored two goals to go along with a goal by Nicole Knight.
The home team struck first with a goal by Marijanich in just the 10th minute. Less than 11 minutes later, Marijanich scored again to give Berry an early 2-0 advantage.
Brevard's defense locked down the Vikings for the remainder of the first half, holding Berry scoreless through the end of the opening stanza. Early in the second half however, Knight gave the Vikings an insurance goal and the 3-0 lead.

Nicole Arroyo played all 90 minutes, recording seven saves. Berry used two goalkeepers - Maggie Jones and Avery Fowler - to combine for five saves en route to the win.
BC used 23 total players in the contest with several players making their Tornado debut.
The BC women's soccer team will return to Brevard for the regular-season home opener on Sunday night vs. Carlow. Kickoff for the home opener is set for 7 p.m. at Ives-Lemel Family Field.
