BREVARD, N.C. – The Brevard College men's soccer team (1-2-1) were left without a goal for the second time in the first four games of 2023, as Carolina University (4-1) took a 2-0 decision on Sunday night at Ives-Lemel Family Field.
The Bruins broke a scoreless tie in the 42
nd minute with a penalty kick goal and doubled their lead in the 63
rd minute with a loose-ball goal off a corner kick, as the visitors completed the shutout victory.
Despite being held off the scoreboard, Brevard was able to outshoot Carolina Univ. 11-9. Both sides made a pair of saves as well. Carolina Univ. took five corners to Brevard's three, and the Tornados were called for 16 fouls opposed to 11 for the Bruins.
Ryan Lynch led all Tornados with four shot attempts as eight different Tornados registered shot attempts.
Matheus Rossi made his fourth start of the season in goal, making two saves. A total of 23 players saw the field for the Tornados in the match.
Luke Spillane-Davis led the Bruins with three shot attempts, while Luigi Piccoli and Thomas Yegbor scored unassisted goals.
BC is back in action on Tuesday, September 12 with a trip to Danville, Virginia to take on Averett University at 5 p.m.
