BREVARD, N.C. - The Brevard College men's soccer team (2-4-2, 0-0-1) played to a 0-0 draw in its USA South Conference opener vs. Southern Virginia University (6-2-3, 0-0-1) on Saturday afternoon at Ives-Lemel Family Field.
Goalkeeper
Matheus Rossi registered the shootout for the Tornados, needing just two saves as the Brevard defense held the Knights to just six shots in the contest.
Though unable to find the back of the net, Brevard registered a grand total of 24 shots with nine shots-on-goal. Senior forward
Ryan Lynch fired off a whopping 11 shots to go along with two shots apiece by defender
Rocco Barbon and midfielder
Caue dos Santos. Graduate student
Sam O'Callaghan recorded two shots, while
Luis Portillo,
Rodrigo Garcia and
Daniel Morgan each registered one shot.
Southern Virginia goalkeeper Treyden Stringham preserved the shutout for the visitors, with nine saves in a full 90 minutes of play.
The Tornado defense was dominant throughout as starters Barbon, O'Callaghan,
Tom Dussauge,
Martin Moguel Aguilar, along with reserve defender
Hayden Domingo, held the Knights' attack in check. Southern Virginia was held to just one shot in the first half and was limited in the attacking zone for the majority of the contest.
USA South Conference play will continue this Wednesday with a road trip at Pfeiffer University in Misenheimer, North Carolina. The Tornados will then return home on Sunday, October 8 with a match vs. conference rival Mary Baldwin University at Ives-Lemel Family Field.
