Tornados Surge for 61-Point Second Half, Bury Battling Bishops 90-83

Brevard Dishes Out Season-High 25 Assists in Winning Effort

BREVARD, N.C. - The Brevard College men's basketball team (7-8, 2-2 USA South) caught fire in a high-scoring second half of action to push past defending USA South Conference champion North Carolina Wesleyan University (7-7, 1-2 USAS) 90-83 on Saturday afternoon at the Boshamer Gymnasium. The contest served as BC's annual Jameson's Joy Day.
 
Brevard took a four-point edge, 29-25, before both sides exploded offensively in the second half, combining for 119 points total with the Tornados holding a 61-58 edge to take the seven-point win. BC dished out a season-high 25 assists in the contest on 33 made field goals.
 
Graduate guard Quincy Carter led the charge for the Tornados offense, scoring 22 points with team-best marks in 3-pointers made (four) and free throws made (six). Carter flirted with a triple-double, dishing out seven assists and grabbing five rebounds.
 
Jadon Carnes added 15 points, three rebounds, and four assists, while Carson Evans poured in 14 points, three rebounds, and four assists. Charlie Hester grabbed a team-high six rebounds, and Kavan Horton contributed nine points.
 
Marquis Eskew led all scorers, putting up 26 points for the Battling Bishops with a game-high 10 made field goals. Kyron Kelly added 15 points, while Deejayy Cox scored 11 and snatched a game-high eight boards.
 
Brevard outshot NCW 56% to 46%, hit 10 3-pointers to NCW's five. BC's winning effort was jumpstarted by an early second-half scoring run, as the Tornados jumped out to a 42-30 lead. BC took a game-high 13-point lead, 47-34, following a 3-pointer from Carter. The visitors were able to cut the deficit down to just two points, 67-65, with 6:18 left to play, but a 9-0 run over the next two minutes pushed the margin back up to double digits for Brevard, who closed out the contest down the stretch for the seven-point win.
 
The Tornados return to action tomorrow at 2 p.m. as BC takes on Methodist at home.
