Tornados Defeat Owls in Non-Conference Play

Brevard Sweeps Season Series vs. Warren Wilson

SWANNANOA, N.C. – The Brevard College women's basketball team (11-4) defeated local foe Warren Wilson (0-16) 86-57 in non-conference action on Wednesday evening in Swannanoa, North Carolina.
 
Sophomore Jada Petty-Wilkins led the Tornados offensively by matching her career high with 15 points.  Sophomore Olivia Miller scored 13 points, marking her 10th double-figure scoring output of the season.  Miller also pulled down six rebounds to go along with three blocks, three assists and two steals.  Sophomore Christena Rhone matched a career-high with 10 points to give BC three players in double-figures.
 
Senior Chyna Pouncey scored eight points and grabbed a game-high seven rebounds including four offensive boards.  Junior Naliyah Boyce pulled down seven rebounds for the third time this season, while recording six points two blocks and two assists.
 
In total 13 different Tornados saw action with 11 players finding their way to the scoring column.
 
Warren Wilson was led by Weronika Swojak and Tatyana Lewis who each recorded double-doubles.  Swojak scored 19 points and grabbed 16 rebounds, while Lewis registered 18 points and 10 boards.
 
The Tornados and Owls played a tight first half with BC eventually taking a 35-25 lead into the halftime intermission.  Coming out of the locker room, Brevard exploded with a 34-17 third quarter to ultimately pull away for the large margin of victory.  In the third period, BC shot 11-of-16 from the field and a perfect 11-for-11 from the free throw line.
 
For the contest, Brevard outshot WWC 46% to 29% while making 8-of-19 3-pointers.  Warren Wilson was limited to just 2-of-18 shooting from beyond the arc.
 
Brevard returns to action with a home USA South Conference matchup vs William Peace at the Boshamer Gymnasium with tipoff set for 2 p.m.
