Tornados Score Season-High 96 Points to Blow Away Pacers

Quincy Carter Leads Four Double-Digit Scorers with 25

RALEIGH, N.C. – The Brevard College men's basketball team (9-9, 4-3 USAS) scored a season-high points and dominated in the second half to defeat host William Peace (8-9, 3-3 USAS) 96-74, in a USA South Conference road battle on Saturday afternoon at the Hermann Student Center in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Winners of four of the last five games, the Tornados have scored 90 or more points in each of the last three wins. The 96 total points scored marked a season-high for the Tornados and the most points scored since scoring 97 points in a win at Bob Jones last season.  It also marked the most points scored in a USA South Conference game by the Tornados since a 97-point output in a home win over Huntingdon on February 11, 2022.

Graduate student Quincy Carter led all players with a season-high 25 points on 11-of-13 shooting from the field, including two 3-pointers.  The reigning USA South Player of the Week, Carter also recorded a season-high five steals and dished out four assists.  It marked the ninth straight game that Carter has scored in double-figures.

Sophomore forward Jadon Carnes went 4-for-4 from beyond the arc en route to 18 points.  Over the last two games, Carnes has shot an electric 9-of-12 on 3-pointers.

Kavan Horton (11 points) and Jeremy Posner (10 points) each scored in double figures as well.  Horton matched season-highs with six rebounds and three steals, while Posner drained two 3-pointers in his performance.

An incredibly high-scoring first half saw each team shooting over 60% from the field.  BC was lethal from beyond the arc making nine 3-pointers on 12 attempts in the opening stanza.  The Pacers matched much of Brevard's shooting with an 8-of-14 performance in the half.  The wild first half ended with in the Tornados heading to intermission with a 49-48 lead.

Early in the second half, WPU took what proved to be its final lead of the game, going ahead 53-51.  The Tornados responded with a 24-4 scoring run as Carter and Carnes caught fire to give BC a 20-point lead with just under 11 minutes to play.

Leading 81-65 with 8:30 to play, Brevard went on a 13-0 run over a three-minute span, capped off by a 3-pointer by senior LB Boyette to stretch the lead to 29 points.   The Tornados cruised for the final minutes of the contest to take the 28-point victory.

In the dominant second half, BC shot 63% from the field and held the Pacers to just 22% shooting on six made field goals.  Moreover, WPU shot just 2-of-12 from beyond the arc in the second stanza.

The contest featured 15 lead changes and nine ties with the majority of the back-and-forth action taking place in the first half of play.

Brevard returns to action with a home USA South Conference matchup vs Pfeiffer at the Boshamer Gymnasium on Tuesday evening with tipoff set for 7 p.m.
