STAUNTON, Va. - The Brevard College men's basketball team (10-10, 5-4 USA South) fell in a heartbreaker, 79-76, as Mary Baldwin University (10-9, 6-2 USAS) hit a game-winning 3-pointer as time expired to earn the win and sweep the regular season series over the Tornados.

Brevard was trailing by five points, 73-68, with 1:37 left to play in the contest. Three made free throws by
Jeremy Posner followed by a
Carson Evans layup tied things up at 73-73 with 48 seconds to go.

MBU was fouled on its next two possessions and the Fighting Squirrels went 3-for-4 at the free throw line to take a three-point lead, but
Kavan Horton answered back with an and-one layup that tied the game back up at 76-76. However, Mary Baldwin held the last possession, and Luke Ogle nailed a 3-pointer as time expired to win it for the hosts.

Brevard held a narrow 45% to 42% edge from the field and had a slim 13-12 advantage behind the 3-point arc. The Fighting Squirrels were able to take advantage of BC's miscues and score 20 points-off-turnovers, while the BC bench outpaced MBU's 28-10. The back-and-forth matchup featured 10 ties and seven lead changes.

Horton notched his first collegiate double-double, as the junior guard scored 11 points and grabbed a career-high 14 rebounds. The native of nearby Asheville has scored in double figures in three-straight games, and his 14 boards are the most in a single-game by a Tornado since
Miles Leathers - who is the Associate Head Coach on the BC men's basketball staff - racked up 15 boards vs. Newberry on February 27, 2016. Horton also notched a team-high five assists.

Horton was one of five Tornados who reached double figures in the game, as Evans led all BC scorers with 13 points with three made 3-pointers. Carter and Posner each put up 12 points, and
Charlie Hester added 10 points.
Chancey Watson led the BC defense with three steals.

MBU's Vernon Fraley totaled a game-high 24 points on 7-of-11 shooting with a perfect 7-for-7 clip at the free throw line. Jaden Ignacio added 17 points and made a game-best five 3-pointers, while Ogle snatched a team-high 10 boards.

Brevard is back in action next Saturday, February 3 when the Tornados host Southern Virginia University at 2 p.m. The contest marks BC men's basketball's annual Red Out for Jimmy Griffin game.
