Tornados Cruise to 41-Point Home Conference Triumph over Greensboro

13 Tornados Enter Scoring Column in Home Rout

BREVARD, N.C. - A grand total of 13 Tornados entered the scoring column as the Brevard College women's basketball team (9-3, 5-2 USA South) drubbed Greensboro College (1-11, 1-4 USAS), 86-45 on Tuesday evening at the Boshamer Gymnasium.
 
Sophomore forward Olivia Miller and senior forward Makenna Parkins led the charge, with Miller tallying 18 points on 9-of-14 shooting from the field while Parkins added 13 points off three 3-pointers to go alongside five rebounds. Point guard Lexi Shepard stuffed the stat sheet with nine points, a team-best six boards, three assists, and a game-high four steals - all while going 5-for-5 from the free throw line. Christena Rhone drained three 3-pointers, Naliyah Boyce, Kayla Jean, and Makayla Street all grabbed five rebounds, and Rhone added a team-high four assists.
 
Brevard led wire-to-wire in the matchup, scored 19 points off turnovers, turned in 30 bench points, pounded the paint with 42 points down low, and totaled 19 buckets in transition. The Tornados shot at a 46% clip from the field and hit nine 3-pointers, while their defense stifled the Pride to just a 26% mark.
 
Brevard's Parkins scored the first eight points of the contest as the Tornados opened up a 19-10 first quarter lead. BC was able to break the game open with a 24-11 second quarter that game the Tornados a 43-21 edge at the intermission. A 20-12 third quarter followed by a 23-12 fourth closed out the 41-point rout for Brevard.
 
Greensboro was paced by Azuria Barrino and Keyonna Thompson, who each tallied 11 points.
 
The Tornados prepare for a pair of consecutive contests this weekend in the commonwealth of Virginia, starting with a Friday matchup at Southern Virginia University in Buena Vista at 6 p.m. before a 2 p.m. tilt at Mary Baldwin in Staunton on Saturday.
