Tornados Score Big Sweep on Senior Night

Brevard Honors Senior Class with 3-0 Sweep of Pfeiffer

BREVARD, N.C. – The Brevard College volleyball team (13-8, 5-6 USA South) honored its five seniors with a resounding 3-0 sweep (25-21, 25-20, 26-24) over Pfeiffer University (4-18, 1-11 USAS) on Wednesday evening at the Boshamer Gymnasium.

Seniors Ashley Hoxit, Melanie Hoyle, Bailey Lance, Makenna Parkins, and Justine St. Louis were all recognized in a special pre-match ceremony. All five seniors started the match for the Tornados.

Parkins, a fifth-year senior from Marion, North Carolina, racked up a season-high 19 kills for a stellar Senior Night performance. The outside hitter now sits just 10 kills away from 1,000 in her illustrious Tornado career.

Izzy Boulay, the reigning USA South Conference Rookie of the Week, dished out 31 assists with 15 digs for her 14th double-double of the 2024 campaign. Fifth-year senior Bailey Lance registered a team-high 20 digs, while Caroline Moon (10 digs) and Kylie Katcher (nine digs) also contributed on the defensive end. Hoxit racked up five digs, Hoyle totaled three blocks, and St. Louis added a kill to round out senior night.

Pfeiffer was led by Madison Tate, who racked up 12 kills and three solo blocks. Gabby Edwards totaled 15 digs, and two Falcons reached double-digit assists with Kylee Mayberry (13 assists) and Karmen Rion (10 assists) posting double figures.

Pfeiffer sprinted out to the early 8-3 edge, but Brevard responded with a 8-2 run to take an 11-10 lead. Brevard later used another 8-2 run to pull ahead by four, 21-17, and used a St. Louis kill followed by two Falcon attack errors to clinch the first set, 25-21.

Brevard jumped ahead 7-0 in the second set, but the Falcons clawed their way back to tie things at 10. With the set deadlocked at 18 apiece, BC went on a 6-0 scoring run kickstarted by an Emma Fontana kill that was followed by five-straight Falcon attack errors. Fontana finished the set off with a kill as the Tornados took a 2-0 match lead with a 25-20 set two win.

The Falcons and Tornados fought their way through a tight third set, with Pfeiffer gaining some breathing room with a late 4-0 run that gave the visitors a 20-14 lead. Brevard rattled off five-consecutive points to cut the deficit to one, but the Falcons got to their first set point of the night, 24-22. BC used a kill by Casey Wampler coupled with a Falcon set error to tie things up. Wampler registered another kill that got the Tornados to match point, 25-24, and a Pfeiffer error sealed the match for Brevard 3-0.

The Tornados are in action this weekend on the road as Brevard heads to Raleigh, North Carolina to take on Meredith on Saturday at noon.
