RALEIGH, N.C. – The Brevard College volleyball team (13-9, 5-7 USAS) fell 3-1 to host Meredith College (13-8, 8-5 USAS) in USA South Conference play on Saturday afternoon at the Weatherspoon Gymnasium in Raleigh, North Carolina.
Senior
Makenna Parkins led the Tornado attack with a match-high 16 kills, marking her fourth consecutive double-digit kill performance. The effort allowed the Marion, North Carolina native to surpass the 1,000-kill threshold for her illustrious Tornado career. Parkins is the third Tornado in the NCAA era to join the 1,000-kill club, joining Brooke Seaman (1,199 kills, 2007-09) and Fatima Gharachorloo (1,104 kills, 2012-15).
Freshman
Caroline Moon (9 kills) and junior
Jaxson Tumicki (7 kills) were factors as well at the net for Brevard offensively.
Freshman
Izzy Boulay once again led BC's distribution with a team-high 38 assists, her 13th output of 30 or more assists this season. Defensively, Tumicki matched a career high with six blocks, having recorded the same number last season at N.C. Wesleyan. Senior libero
Bailey Lance recorded 17 digs to go along with eight digs from Boulay and seven from
Lili White.
Meredith was led by setter Lillie Davis who registered 46 assists to go along with 13 kills by hitter Emma Duncan. Alexa House and Megan Murray of the Avenging Angels each tallied 14 digs.
Brevard won the first set 25-23, however Meredith responded with three consecutive set wins to take the four-set victory.
Brevard came from behind in the first set, having trailed the Avenging Angels 20-17. Tumicki came up with a block followed by a kill off an assist from Boulay to propel BC ahead 23-21. With set point at 24-23, a kill by Parkins off another Boulay assist gave BC the 25-23 set victory.
The Avenging Angels came back to win 25-20 in the second set and 25-21 in the third set. Meredith then finished off the match with an impressive 25-16 victory in set four.
Brevard will return to USA South Conference action with its home finale on Tuesday vs. Greensboro. First serve is set for 6 p.m. at the Boshamer Gymnasium.
