Five-Set Thriller Goes to Greensboro in Home Finale

Greensboro Battles Back in Fifth Set to Take the Match

BREVARD, N.C. - The Brevard College volleyball team (13-10, 5-8 USA South) dropped a five-set thriller to Greensboro College (18-7, 11-4 USAS) in the home finale on Tuesday evening at the Boshamer Gymnasium.

The visitors took set number one, 25-21, before Brevard returned the favor with a 25-21 win in set number two. Brevard took a 2-1 match lead by earning a 25-20 win in set number three. Greensboro answered back with a 25-16 triumph in the fourth set, and battled back from as many as five points down to win the deciding fifth set, 16-14.

Fifth-year senior outside hitter Makenna Parkins reached double-digit kills for the fifth-straight match, turning in a 17-kill performance in her final career home match. Parkins was honored before the game for becoming just the third Tornado in the NCAA era to join the 1,000-kill club at Brevard College.

Freshman Caroline Moon notched her second collegiate double-double, totaling 15 kills to go alongside a career-high 26 digs. Fellow freshmen Emma Fontana and Casey Wampler each totaled eight kills as well.

Freshman setter Izzy Boulay distributed 44 assists to bring her season total to 710, while registering her 15th double-double of the season with 16 digs. Bailey Lance matched her season high of 32 digs as well.

Kelci Brooks (12 kills) and Taylor Cotie (11 kills) led the Pride offense, while Jaylyn Templeton dished out 45 assists. Cotie added four solo blocks for GC's defense, and Morgan Mayfield matched Lance's dig total with 32.

Brevard will next travel to Fayetteville, North Carolina on Saturday for a tri-match against host Methodist at 12 p.m. and Mary Baldwin at 2 p.m.
