BREVARD, N.C. – The Brevard College men's soccer team (8-3-2, 5-1-1 USAS) won its regular-season finale with a 1-0 victory over USA South Conference rival Pfeiffer University (4-9-2, 1-5-1 USAS) on Wednesday evening at Ives-Lemel Family Field.
The Tornados will now turn their attention to the USA South Conference Championship Tournament. Brevard will enter the tournament as the event's no. 2 seed with a first-round bye. The back-to-back defending champion Tornados will host the semifinals against an opponent to be determined on Wednesday, November 6 at Ives-Lemel Family Field.
With the win over Pfeiffer, Brevard completed its conference play with five wins, a draw and just one loss. The Tornados went 7-1-1 overall in their last eight games to conclude the regular season and 5-1-1 in home games in 2024.
Wednesday's tilt vs. Pfeiffer proved to be a hard-fought battle that the Tornados ultimately prevailed in. Brevard fired off four shots on goal and nine total shots, while the Falcons recorded three shots-on-goal and 10 total shots.
The game's lone goal came in spectacular fashion as senior
Ryan Lynch placed a long-range free kick perfectly in the box where defender
Tom Dussauge headed it home to give BC a 1-0 lead in the 29th minute.
The Brevard defense, along with senior goalkeeper
Matheus Rossi held off Pfeiffer for the game's final 61 minutes that included eight corner kicks and several other set-piece opportunities for the Falcons.
Rossi registered three saves to complete the shutout, the seventh overall shutout of the season for the native of Vitoria, Brazil.
Brevard will await the winner of the first-round match between the third and sixth seeds of the USA South Conference Tournament. With the first-round bye, the Tornados will then host the semifinals match up on Wednesday, November 6. Stay tuned to
