BREVARD, N.C. - The Brevard College volleyball team (11-5, 3-3 USA South) defeated Mary Baldwin (2-11, 0-6 USAS) 3-0 and fell in straight sets to Methodist (15-2, 6-1 USAS) in a USA South Conference tri-match on Saturday afternoon at the Boshamer Gymnasium.

With BC's early afternoon victory over MBU, the Tornados surpassed their win total from last season in just 16 matches played through 2024.

BREVARD 3, MARY BALDWIN 0 (25-17, 25-17, 25-19)

Ashley Hoxit led Brevard's offense in the day's first match with 10 kills to go alongside 11 digs for a double-double. The effort marked the Rosman, North Carolina senior's fourth double-double of the season.

Makenna Parkins added eight kills, while freshman duo
Emma Fontana and
Casey Wampler each contributed six kills apiece.
Bailey Lance, BC's senior libero from Mills River, North Carolina, totaled 12 digs and served four aces, while freshman setter
Izzy Boulay dished 20 assists to go alongside four service aces.

MBU's Kennedy Mills logged six kills to lead the Fighting Squirrels.

The first set was tight through the early stages before Brevard pulled away with a 12-4 run to open up a 19-11 advantage. Mary Baldwin cut the deficit to six points, 23-17, but an attack error coupled with a Parkins kill handed the first set to the Tornados 25-17.

The Fighting Squirrels jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the second set, but an 11-2 scoring stretch for the Tornados flipped the script as Brevard found itself up 22-12. Kills from Boulay, Hoxit and Parkins closed the second set out as the Tornados claimed their second-straight 25-17 set win.

The two sides then battled through the third set before BC pulled away once more, this time with a 12-4 run that put Brevard on top, 22-14. The visitors did not go down quietly, scoring five-straight points to cut the deficit down to three, but a kill by
Jaxson Tumicki coupled with two MBU errors clinched the sweep for Brevard, 3-0.

METHODIST 3, BREVARD 0 (14-25, 16-25, 13-25)

The Monarchs were able to control the contest from the onset, as Methodist only trailed on two seperate occasions throughout the match.

Methodist was led by its offensive duo of Jamie Hilton (17 kills) and Jeanana Fowler (13 kills). Hannah Hewitt dished 36 assists out for MU, while Blake O'Brien added 17 digs.

Wampler had a team-best six kills for the Tornados, and fellow freshman Boulay totaled 16 assists. Lance (13 digs) and Hoxit (10 digs) led Brevard's defense, with freshman
Caroline Moon also contributing nine digs.

The Tornados are back in action next Tuesday, October 8, as Brevard visits Salem College at 6 p.m. in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
