BUENA VISTA, Va. - The Brevard College men's soccer team (5-2-2, 2-0-1 USA South) held on to pick up a crucial 1-0 victory over Southern Virginia University (5-3-2, 0-2-0 USAS) on Wednesday afternoon in Buena Vista, Virginia. 

The Tornados held on to an early one-goal lead, overcoming a disadvantage of playing man-down for the final 45 minutes of the contest. 

Luiz Pontes scored the eventual winner for the Tornados, as the graduate forward found the back of the net in the 12th minute. Matheus Rossi earned the shutout victory in goal, making two saves for Brevard. 

BC outshot SVU 19-10 in the game, including an 11-shot edge at halftime. SVU was able to keep within striking distance thanks to 10 saves. 

Pontes scored his fifth goal of the season after rebounding a deflected shot attempt, collecting the ball, and shooting to the left corner of the goal to beat the SVU keeper. 

BC outshot SVU 12-1, but the Tornados picked up a red card in the final minute of the first half, forcing Brevard to play with only 10 men for the remainder of the contest. However, BC's defense held strong to keep the shutout intact as the Tornados picked up the win. 

Brevard is back at home on Saturday at 12 p.m. to face William Peace University.
