JACKSON, Miss. – The Brevard College cross country program raced at the NCAA Division III South Regional on Saturday in Jackson, Mississippi. Four Tornados raced in the women's 6,000-meter race, while six BC runners followed in the men's 8,000-meter event.
Graduate student
Channing Barker earned All-South Region accolades after leading Brevard with a 34th place finish in the Women's 6K competition with a time of 23:35.49. It marked the best finish by a Tornado runner at the regionals during the school's NCAA D3 era and with Barker's top-35 result gave BC its first All-Region award winner.
Fellow senior
Haylea-Layne Miller (162nd, 33:00.45), sophomore
Victoria Sylvester (167th, 35:08.33) and freshman
Carleigh Garrett (169th, 36:52.05) also represented Brevard in the women's race.
In the men's 8K race,
Shea Granger was the highest finishing Tornado with a time of 28:24.29 to place 88th in a field of 160 runners.
Ethan Carlan (121st, 30:15.53) and
Colbin Hill (126th, 30:32.15) were the next highest finishing Tornados.
Adin DeJesus (136th, 31:26.37),
Matthew Harris (143rd, 32:32.90) and
Owen Plucar (152nd, 33:29.99) rounded out the performance for Brevard in the men's 8,000-meter race.
Olivia Warr of Washington & Lee won the women's 6K with a time of 21.34.70. The men's 8K race winner was Chasen Hunt of Lynchburg who finished in 24:29.62.
