BREVARD, N.C. – The Brevard men's and women's cross country team competed against a competitive field at the Second Annual Brevard Cross Country Classic on Friday evening.
The field featured many Division II programs such as Lander, Tusculum, and Emory & Henry. Nationally-ranked NAIA Milligan and Division I Gardner-Webb also competed.
Seniors Owen Plucar and Victoria Sylvester were recognized ahead of the men's 8k for their accomplishments in their time at Brevard.
Following a brief weather delay, the men's 8k race kicked off the afternoon's action. Sophomore Ethan Carlan led the Tornados with a 61st place finish, crossing the finish line at 30:07.72. Freshman Alexander Rich followed in 88th at 31:19.43, and sophomore Colbin Hill came shortly after in 91st at 31:30.82. Senior Owen Plucar crossed at 32:53.06 in 103rd, with sophomore Matthew Harris (104th, 32:53.53) and junior Adin DeJesus (112th, 34:13.94) to follow.
Tusculum's Nathan Buckeridge finished 1st at 25:35.34, and the Pioneers also earned the title as a team.
Three Tornados competed in the women's 5k, with freshman Alison Williams leading the way with a 61st place finish at 22:14.34. Senior Victoria Sylvester followed in 99th at 27:28.54 and Carleigh Garrett crossed in 102nd at 33:55.01.
Gardner-Webb's Jessica Perriello was the top individual finisher, clocking in at 18:18.95. North Greenville was the top overall team at the conclusion of the 5k.
The Tornados will take a sizable break, preparing for the Royals Cross Country Challenge in Charlotte, North Carolina, on Friday, October 10 at 3:30 p.m.
