Tornados Handle Owls to Complete Season Sweep

Wansley Logs Second Double-Double of Season

SWANNANOA, N.C. - The Brevard College men's basketball team (3-1) won its third-straight game and earned a season sweep over Warren Wilson (0-6) with a 88-70 win on Thursday evening at the Devries Athletic Gymnaisum in Swannanoa, North Carolina.

Brennan Wansley recorded his second double-double of the season with 18 points and 11 rebounds while leading the Tornados at the free throw line with a 8-for-11 mark. Charlie Hester added 15 points on 5-of-9 shooting from the field, and Jadon Carnes rounded out Brevard's double-digit scorers with a 13-point performance. KK Horton stuffed the stat sheet with eight points, five assists, and four steals, while Twain Wilson scored eight points and hit both of his 3-pointers as Wilson, Brock McKnight, and Drew Smith each hit two 3-pointers apiece.

Warren Wilson featured three double-digit scorers of its own, as Jakorri Arnold led the way with 13 points and three 3-pointers. Peyton Gonzales added 12 points and seven boards, with Aaron Cuthbertson going 5-for-6 from the field en route to a 12-point outing. Braxton Crocker and Dylan Wheatley each scored nine points as well.

Brevard shot 58% from the field, marking its fourth-straight game with a field goal percentage higher than 50%. The Tornados scored 18 points off Owl turnovers, scored 34 points in the paint, and tallied 31 bench points as every Tornado who saw action on Thursday got on the score sheet. BC held a 33-26 edge on the glass, while the Owls hit two more 3-pointers (11-9) than the Tornados.

Warren Wilson came out of the gate with a 9-7 edge, but a Carnes 3-pointer gave the Tornados the lead by one. With the score tied 10-10 with 13 left to play in the first half, Brevard nailed four 3-pointers without an answer from WWC, as Hester, Wilson, Smith, and McKnight all hit triples as the Tornados opened up a 12-point edge.

WWC cut the deficit back down to eight but the Tornados ended the first half on a 17-6 run as Brevard held a 19-point lead, 39-20, at the intermission. Carnes led all Tornados with seven points, while Wansley and Dre'Shaun Brown each had four boards at the break. Brevard shot 54% from the field with a 7-for-14 first-half mark from long distance. BC had a 21-13 advantage on the glass and recorded assists on 10 of its 14 first-half field goals.

The Owls edged Brevard in the second half, 50-49, and were able to cut the deficit down to 13 late, but the Tornados kept their lead at a comfortable distance at double digits throughout the second half en route to the 18-point victory.

Brevard returns to action on Monday, November 25 at 5 p.m. in BC's final contest before Thanksgiving break, as the Tornados travel to LaGrange, Georgia to face former USA South foe LaGrange College.
