ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The Brevard College women's basketball team competed in an NCAA DI exhibition contest against UNC Asheville (2-11). The Bulldogs defeated the Tornados by a final of 79-45 at Kimmel Arena on Monday evening, closing out BC's 2024 calendar of events.
Josie Hester scored a team-high 13 points and knocked in three 3-pointers to lead all Tornados. Freshman guard
Analee Morris aadded 12 points in reserve action, making four field goals while drilling a team-high four free throws.
Chyna Pouncey grabbed a team-best seven boards, with
Lexi Shepard and
Christena Rhone each distributing two assists each. Shepard led BC's defensive efforts with four steals.
UNC Asheville was led by Lalmani Simmons, who paced the Bulldog attack with 19 points. Dakota McCaughan scored 13 points and swiped a game-high eight steals, with Sydney Burris rounding out the Bulldog double-digit scorers with 11 points and a game-high eight rebounds.
The Bulldogs were able to capitalize on Tornado miscues, scoring 28 points off of turnovers. The NCAA DI opponent controlled the paint as well, scoring 34 points down low to Brevard's 14. Finally, UNC Asheville set the pace of the game with 26 fastbreak buckets.
Brevard is back to USA South Conference action on Saturday, January 4, with a trip to Raleigh, North Carolina to face Meredith at 2 p.m.
