RALEIGH, N.C. - The Brevard College women's basketball team (9-3, 4-1 USA South) led a majority of the way behind three double-digit scorers and a dominant fourth quarter as the Tornados stifled Meredith (3-7, 1-3 USAS) 65-43 to earn its fourth USA South Conference victory of the season on Saturday in Raleigh, North Carolina.
With the win, ninth-year Head Coach and BC alumnus
Donald Hudson secured the 100th victory of his collegiate coaching career.
Brevard was led by a dominant performance by
Naliyah Boyce, who secured her first double-double of the season with 16 points and 12 rebounds.
Analee Morris added 13 points in just 11 minutes of action with five rebounds, while
Jada Petty-Wilkins posted 10 points.
Makenna Parkins added nine points and four rebounds, and 10 total Tornados got in the scoring column.
Meredith's Rylie Wade had a double-double of her own with 14 points and 16 rebounds, while Danae Hawkins added 12 points.
Brevard jumped out to a 15-6 lead through the first quarter of play, as the Tornados shot 50% from the field and held the Avenging Angels to a 21% mark. The middle two quarters were tight, with Meredith holding a 15-13 edge in the second period and a 17-16 edge in the third quarter that cut the deficit to a six-point margin, 44-38. However, the Tornados dominated the fourth quarter of play with a 21-5 margin to seal the conference win.
Brevard shot 40% from the field compared to a 26% margin for Meredith. BC controlled the paint 32-18, scored 18 points off Meredith turnovers, and BC's second unit made all the difference outscoring the Avenging Angels 27-3 in bench points.
Brevard is back at home next Saturday, January 11 for a key matchup against Methodist at 4 p.m., part of a Tornado basketball doubleheader.
