Tornados Come Back to Win at Home; Improve to 6-2

Brevard Erases 10-Point Deficit with Strong Performance in Second Half

BREVARD, N.C. - The Brevard College women's basketball team (6-2) came back from a 10-point deficit to secure a 70-66 home victory over Bob Jones (4-6) on Friday evening in non-conference play at the Boshamer Gymnasium.  Brevard's six-game win streak continues in the series over the Bruins, as BC improves to 12-2 in 14 overall meetings against BJU in the NCAA era.

Brevard was led by a season-high 22-point performance from senior guard Josie Hester.  Nineteen of the 22 points for Hester came in the second half, including an explosive 14-point third quarter.  The native of Huntersville, North Carolina also pulled down a career-high eight rebounds and recorded five steals in the all-around effort.

Senior Naliyah Boyce finished with 12 points on 54.5% shooting from the field. Junior Jada Petty-Wilkins delivered nine points and three steals, while graduate student Chyna Pouncey came off the bench with a valuable six points and six rebounds.

For the Bruins, Kayley Trump was the leading scorer with 18 points, supported by 16 points from Jenna Brooks and 12 points from Keely Price who also led the Bruins with 11 rebounds for a double-double.

After a tied 14-14 score at the end of the first quarter, the Bruins started the second period with a 7-0 run and went on to take a 34-26 lead into intermission.

Brevard cut the deficit to five points at the start of the third, however, the Bruins then tied their largest lead of the game, 46-36 with 4:06 left in the third. Brevard then went on an electric 11-2 run to cut the deficit to one point, 48-47, at the end of the third quarter.  Behind Hester's 14 points, BC outscored the Bruins 21-14 in the period.

The momentum kept swinging in Brevard's favor as BC stormed ahead to a 56-51 lead with 7:23 left in the game.  Brevard maintained its lead down the stretch to take the four-point lead for its sixth win of the year.

Overall, Bob Jones outshot Brevard, achieving a 39.3% field goal percentage from the field compared to 38% for the Tornados.  The Bruins shot 36.7% from 3-point line compared to Brevard with 32%. The Bruins committed 24 turnovers, leading to an impressive 24 points-off-turnovers for the Tornados.  Brevard meanwhile protected the ball well, committing just seven turnovers in the contest. BC's seven turnovers on Friday are its lowest single-game turnovers committed in the last six seasons, with BC last turning the ball over just five times on January 5, 2019 at Wesleyan College in Macon, Georgia.

Brevard will return to the Boshamer Gymnasium for their ninth game of the season on Saturday at 2 p.m. vs. Warren Wilson on the Brevard College campus.
