LAGRANGE, Ga. – The Brevard College baseball team (3-2) fell to a former conference foe, as the Tornados dropped two contests to LaGrange College (2-0), who is receiving votes in the D3baseball.com national poll. The Tornados fell by finals of 5-1 and 10-0 on Saturday afternoon in LaGrange, Georgia.
GAME ONE: LAGRANGE 5, BREVARD 1
LaGrange scored one run in the second, third, and fourth innings to build an early 3-0 lead on the Tornados. BC got on the board in the top of the sixth when
Cale Oehler's RBI double brought
Luke Morton around to score, but that hit proved to be the lone run BC would score in the doubleheader, as the hosts answered back with a two-RBI double in the bottom of the sixth followed by three clean innings to secure the four-run win.
Sophomore left-handed pitcher
Connor Crosby got the ball in the series opener, striking out a pair of batters in five and 1/3 innings pitched with six hits and five runs allowed, although only three of those runs were earned due to four Tornado errors committed in game one.
Andy Fahringer hurled 2/3 of an inning with a walk and a strikeout, while
Hatcher Bailey threw two scoreless innings with a walk and a strikeout.
Lucas Granata, Colston Miller, and Oehler recorded hits for the Tornados, with Morton coming across for the lone run for the Tornados.
GAME TWO (7 INNINGS): LAGRANGE 10, BREVARD 0
The Panthers' potent offense proved too much to handle in a run-ruled second game of the day, as LaGrange kicked off the contest with two runs in the first inning and one in the fourth before racking up a six-run sixth inning. The game was decided by run rule following an RBI single in the bottom of the seventh from the Panthers.
Logan Clark, Granata, and
Hayden Jennings logged hits in game two for Brevard, while
Jacob Thompson (0-2), Fahringer, and
Kaden Tuten all worked on the mound for the Tornados. Clark stole the lone base of the day for Brevard.
The Tornados and Panthers will wrap up their three-game set up on Sunday at 2 p.m. at Cleaveland Field.
