BREVARD, N.C. – The Brevard College men's lacrosse team (0-5) held a one-goal first half lead and found itself within a goal at halftime against Husson University (2-3), however the visiting Eagles outscored Brevard 6-3 in the second half to take an 11-7 victory over the Tornados on Friday evening at Ives-Lemel Family Field.

The contest was Brevard's third of its season-long five-game homestand.

Three different Tornados scored multiple goals, with
Atticus Cooper leading the charge with a four-point performance as the Louisville, Kentucky senior notched two goals with two assists. Graduate attacker
Parker Corbett added two goals and an assist, while sophomore attacker
Gage Khayat also scored two goals. Junior
Drew Pond found the back of the net as well to cap off BC's offensive performances.

On the defensive end, freshman
Tyler Cameron grabbed a career-high six ground balls and caused a career-best three turnovers.
Nick Charania also secured six ground balls with two caused turnovers, and senior defender
Jacob Gravely caused a team-best four turnovers with three ground balls. Gravely, a fourth-year Tornado out of Monroe, North Carolina, matched the BC men's lacrosse program record for career caused turnovers (66, Robert Kokal 2017-19) with his four CTs on Friday. Junior goalkeeper
Jack Hicks followed his career-best 23 save performance vs. Hiram on Tuesday up with 14 saves in Friday's action.

Husson's offense featured six different goal scorers, with Kolton Gillilian pacing the Eagles with four goals and an assist. Nathan Vibber and Alex Walsh each scored two goals, with the latter also dishing two assists out, while Drew Clinch, Owen Giorgio, and Jacob Sargent all also found the back of the nylon. The Eagle defense also featured two double-digit ground ball performers in Giorgio and Brad Stolt, while Stolt featured as the faceoff specialist for the Eagles going 19-for-22 on faceoff chances.

Vibber got Husson on the board first, while Cooper broke Brevard's 11 minute scoreless start with an unassisted goal. The visitors scored in the final minute of the first quarter to take a 2-1 edge into the second period of play.

Khayat and Cooper teamed up for consecutive goals to kick off the second quarter of action, giving BC its first lead of the evening at 3-2 with nine minute left in the first half. The Eagles rattled off three-straight goals in the span of 2:19 to push back ahead, 5-3, but the run was stalled when Corbett put away a pass from Cooper, cutting the deficit to one just before the intermission.

Each side traded goals to begin the third period, but Husson found a quick answer just 46 seconds following Pond's goal, pushing the lead back up to two at 7-5 with 8:13 left in the third period.

Neither side would score again in the third quarter, but Husson struck with lightning speed in the fourth period as Walsh and Gillilian went back-to-back within 38 seconds to double the Eagle edge, 9-5. Corbett put away another Cooper assist to tighten things back up, 9-6, but the visitors would not be deterred. Giorgio scored at the 7:58 mark, and just eight seconds later with 7:50 left to play, Gillilian put in his fourth goal of the contest. BC converted on the power play with 3:39 left in the game, but the effort proved to be too late as Husson wrapped up its four-goal victory.

The visiting Eagles outshot Brevard 36-28, with 25 shots on target to BC's 18. Each side committed north of 20 turnovers, with 25 miscues to Husson compared to Brevard's 24. Husson had a better clear percentage at 18-for-20, while BC went 20-for-29 on clear attempts. The Eagles grabbed 49 ground balls to Brevard's 36, and won 19 of 22 total faceoffs including a 10-1 edge in the second half. Brevard converted one of its three extra-man opportunities on Friday.

Brevard will now prepare for two home contests over Spring Break to close out its five game home stretch. The Tornados play host to Wilmington College (Monday, March 11, 12 p.m.) and Franciscan University (Thursday, March 14, 1 p.m.) for the first time ever in program history.
