HIGH POINT, N.C. - The Brevard College baseball team (16-13, 9-6 USA South) fell in both games of a Sunday afternoon doubleheader to Greensboro College (21-12, 9-6 USAS) on Sunday in High Point, North Carolina.
The Pride were able to snatch game one of the day, using three late runs to pull away in a 7-4 decision. Greensboro's offense surged in the final game of the day, scoring runs in six out of eight innings including a four-run sixth to take a 13-5 win to sweep the series.
GAME ONE: GREENSBORO 7, BREVARD 4
Greensboro got things going early in the first game of the twin bill, using an RBI double in the bottom of the first to take the early lead, 1-0. The Pride then used another RBI double and a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the second to extend their lead to a 3-0 margin.
Colson Miller launched yet another solo home run in the top of the third inning - his third of the series - to put Brevard on the board. CP Pyle tied the game up in the top of the fourth with a two-RBI single, as the Tornados drew even with the Pride, 3-3.
Greensboro took the lead back in the bottom of the fourth on another sacrifice fly, and following scoreless innings from both teams in the fifth and sixth, the Pride used a seventh-inning RBI single coupled with an RBI single and double in the bottom of the eight to establish a four-run lead, 7-3, heading into the game's final frame.
Cale Oehler launched a solo home run, the 13th of his career to tie the BC NCAA era career record, in the top of the ninth. However, that would be all the offense that the Tornados would generate as Greensboro clinched the series with the 7-4 win.
Oehler notched a multi-hit performance for Brevard with two runs scored, as Miller and Pyle collected Brevard's other two hits of the game. Cameron Cook (2-1) and Aaron Burchett worked the mound for Brevard in the first game of the doubleheader.
GAME TWO: GREENSBORO 13, BREVARD 5
Brevard got things going early in the series finale, as Pyle scored on an error and Oehler drove in Logan Clark with an RBI double to establish a first-inning 2-0 lead.
A Tornado error in the bottom of the second cost BC the lead, as Greensboro tied things up at 2-2. The Pride used two sac flys in the bottom of the third and an RBI single in the fourth to take their first lead of the game, 5-2.
Frankie Vasquez launched a solo home run in the top of the sixth to pull Brevard within two, but Greensboro pulled away with six straight runs that included a three-run homer and solo home run. Pyle came across to score while Miller drove in Oehler on a sacrifice fly in the top of the eighth, but Greensboro scored two in the bottom of the frame to wrap up the dominant 13-5 win.
The Tornados return home for Senior Day on Saturday at 3 p.m. vs. William Peace at Gil Coan Field.
