LEXINGTON, Va. - In a rematch of the opening round of the 2022 NCAA DIII Men's Soccer Tournament First Round, the Brevard College men's soccer team (1-2-1) fell 2-1 to Washington and Lee University (3-3) on Sunday afternoon at Watt Field in Lexington, Virginia.
The match went scoreless through the first 45 minutes before the Generals scored twice within two minutes to take a 2-0 lead. Ryan Lynch scored on an assist by Estevan Berto in the 62nd minute. WLU's Ryan Sharpe was shown a red card in the 76th minute, but the Generals closed out the victory despite playing man down through the final 14 minutes of action.
WLU edged BC 15-11 in shots, but the Tornados made five saves to the Generals' three.
Lynch led the Tornados with four shot attempts, while Estevan Berto took three chances at goal. Weyimi Agbeyegbe scored a goal and assisted on another for the Generals, while Lucas Pleasants scored and Sharpe added an assist.
Brevard returns to action at home on Tuesday, September 17 at 6 p.m. as Maryville College comes to town.
