Tornados Keep Rolling with 4-1 Victory; Off to Best Start in NCAA Era

Elis Diniz Notches Two Goals in Wednesday Night Winston-Salem W

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Brevard College women's soccer team (4-0-1) kept up its unbeaten ways as the Tornados defeated Carolina University (2-5-1) in a 4-1 result on Wednesday night in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

Graduate forward Elis Diniz notched a brace with two goals to pace the Tornado offense, while freshmen sensations Kinlee Mozley and Mikayla Rubin each found the back of the next as well. Olivia Guillermo, Mozley, and Rachael Trifoli all distributed assists in the match.

Junior goalkeeper Nicole Arroyo (3-0) earned her third win in three attempts this season, recording four saves in the match.

BC's 4-0-1 start is the program's best NCAA-Era start to a season through five matches, surpassing the 4-1 start back in 2009. Through the first five matches of the season, BC is outscoring its opponents 26-2.

The Tornados outpaced the Bruins by over double in the shot category (13-6) and had an 8-5 lead on shots-on-goal. Each side took three corner kicks and were near even in fouls called, however a costly red card was issued to the Bruins in the 52nd minute, setting up Brevard's third goal while forcing the hosts to play down a player through the final 38 minutes of action.

Rubin scored for the sixth time this season on an assist from Trifoli in the 12th minute to take the early 1-0 lead. Over 30 minutes later, Diniz found the back of the net on an assist by Mozley, making it a 2-0 affair heading into the intermission.

Just three minutes into the second half, the Bruins' Alondra Ramon scored to cut the deficit to 2-1.

A hard foul just outside the box resulted in a Bruin red card in the 52nd minute, and Diniz capitalized with a free kick that found nylon to push the Tornado lead to 3-1, and Brevard found itself playing up a player for the remainder of the contest.

The victory was capped by Brevard in the 80th minute when Mozley scored off a late Olivia Guillermo assist, pushing the contest out of reach 4-1.

Brevard is back in action for its USA South opener on Saturday in Raleigh, North Carolina as the Tornados take on Meredith College at 1 p.m.
