BREVARD, N.C. - The Brevard College volleyball team (3-2) opened up its home schedule with a 3-0 (25-20, 25-23, 25-19) sweep over Warren Wilson College (0-3) on Thursday evening at the Boshamer Gymnasium.
Brevard led wire-to-wire in the first set and clinched a five-point set win, but had to battle back from an early four-point deficit in the second set, and after a spirited comeback effort by Warren Wilson, Brevard scored the final three points of the second set to take the win, 25-23. The Tornados then pulled away late in the match-clinching third set, scoring 10 of the set's final 12 points to wrap up the sweep.
Senior outside hitter Ashley Hoxit led a balanced Tornado offense with seven kills, while also contributing 11 digs and four service aces. Eight different Tornados registered kills in Thursday's victory, as Makenna Parkins (six kills), Casey Wampler (six kills), Caroline Moon (five kills), Emma Fonatana (four kills), Jaxson Tumicki (four kills), Izzy Boulay (three kills), and Brooke Marak (two kills) all contributed to Brevard's 37-kill night.
Boulay facilitated BC's offense with 27 assists, as the freshman from Newnan, Georgia also added nine digs on the defensive end. Fifth-year senior libero Bailey Lance led all Tornados with 18 digs and matched Hoxit's four service aces. Moon added a season-high 14 digs, and Parkins led BC's blocking attack with three total blocks.
Brevard will have the weekend off before preparing for a five-match week ahead. BC will be at home on Tuesday, September 10 at 6 p.m. against Bob Jones University before a four-match trip next weekend for the Bob Jones Tournament in Greenville, South Carolina.
