Martin’s Second-Half Goal Lifts Tornados Past Pride, 1-0

Brevard Picks Up First Conference Win

GREENSBORO, N.C. – A second-half strike from Julian Martin proved to be the difference as the Brevard College men's soccer team (2-3-3, 1-1-0 USA South) earned a 1-0 road victory over Greensboro College (4-3-3, 0-1-0) in USA South Conference play Tuesday evening at Pride Field.

After a scoreless first half that featured heavy pressure from the Pride, Martin delivered the breakthrough in the 56th minute. The second-year Tornado forward found the net following a sequence of set-piece opportunities, cashing in after Brevard earned its fourth corner of the night to put the Tornados ahead. Caue dos Santos played the corner short to German Garcia, who ripped a shot attempt off the crossbar. The ball fell to Brandon King, who directed the ball to Martin on the left side who finished off the scoring chance.

From there, Brevard leaned on its defense and the play of freshman goalkeeper Manuel Tovar Hagstrom, who recorded five saves to preserve the shutout. The first-year netminder turned aside three shots in the opening 45 minutes, including back-to-back stops in the 37th and 42nd minutes, before withstanding Greensboro's late push that included a pair of corner kicks in the 73rd minute.

The Pride, who outshot Brevard 6-4 in the first half, managed just one attempt on target after halftime as the Tornados clamped down defensively. Greensboro finished the night with a narrow 7-6 edge in corner kicks, but the Pride were unable to break through.

Martin, a junior forward from Hendersolville, N.C., scored his first goal of the season and his second as a Tornado. Brevard registered eight total shots, three of which were on target. Dos Santos and Leonardo Zabeu also challenged Greensboro keeper Alvaro Hermosa, who finished with two saves.

The match was physical throughout, with Brevard whistled for four yellow cards while Greensboro picked up one caution.

The result gave Brevard its first conference win of the 2025 campaign and handed Greensboro a setback in its USA South opener. The Tornados return home this weekend looking to build on the momentum of Tuesday's clean sheet, as BC hosts Methodist on Saturday at 4 p.m.
