RALEIGH, N.C. – Brevard men's soccer (3-4-4, 1-2-1 USA South) held William Peace (7-4-3, 2-0-2 USAS) to one goal, but couldn't find the equalizer in a 1-0 road loss on Saturday afternoon at WakeMed Soccer Park.
The two sides went scoreless for the first 30 minutes and change. Opportunities were limited for both sides early, as there was a combined six total shots in that stretch. Julian Martin and Maor Gavrilov tallied shots in the first half, but neither found the back of the net.
William Peace broke through late in the first half, as Ausar Omwenga converted his fourth goal of the season in the 35th minute to give the Pacers the edge.
The Pacers outshot the Tornados 6-3 in the first half, but the Brevard defense limited William Peace to the lone first half goal to keep the game within reach.
The second half of play started with another Brevard opportunity on a Gavrilov shot, but it went wide. Caue dos Santos tallied a shot in the 55th minute that missed just high.
Brevard's defense did an impressive job later in the period, denying four William Peace shots in a short span from the 85th to 87th minute, keeping the game in reach late. The last substantial chance for the Tornados came on a Tristan Bayssade shot that was saved by the Pacers' Ayden Miller, and the ensuing corner was cleared by the Pacers.
The Tornados tallied five shots in the second half to the Pacers' six, but Brevard failed to find the equalizer.
Despite surrendering the lone goal, Manuel Tovar Hagstrom had a nice day in goal, denying two other shots on goal to keep the game tight. On the other side, Miller pitched a clean sheet with three saves to secure the win for William Peace.
The Tornados conclude a three-game road trip on Saturday, October 18th at 2 pm against North Carolina Wesleyan.
