ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. – Brevard (3-5-4, 1-3-1 USA South) could not overcome a fast start from North Carolina Wesleyan (6-7-1, 3-1-1 USAS), falling 4-2 on the road on Saturday afternoon.
The Battling Bishops didn't waste much time, cracking the scoresheet in the sixth minute on Israel Monsanto's third goal of the season on a feed from Tom Roantree, taking an early 1-0 advantage with 5:39 in the first half.
The 1-0 lead stayed intact until late in the first half, when Calvo Lovera converted with just three seconds to play before half, giving NC Wesleyan a 2-0 lead heading to the break.
The Battling Bishops dominated in the shots department in the first half, holding a 6-1 advantage at the intermission.
The Tornados almost immediately cut into the deficit in the second half, as sophomore Jacob Stephens netted his first career goal to trim the deficit in half, making it 2-1 in the 46th minute of play.
NC Wesleyan had the answer less than ten minutes late, as Jack Mudd found Mikkel Christensen in the 55th minute, scoring his third goal of 2025 to reinstate the two-goal lead.
The Battling Bishops would hold on to the two-goal lead and even add to it late, as Gareth Siemers netted a penalty kick goal in the 86th minute.
Will Hall would score his second goal of the season in the 90th minute off a Caue dos Santos assist to cut it to 4-2, but it wouldn't be enough as NC Wesleyan secured the conference win on Saturday.
Brevard created more opportunities in the second half, but NC Wesleyan outshot the Tornados 16-5, and 7-3 in shots on goal.
Manuel Tovar Hagstrom saved three shots in net, while allowing four goals. Facundo Boismoreau tallied one save for NC Wesleyan, while allowing two goals.
The Tornados look to respond in a non-conference contest with Warren Wilson on Wednesday, October 22nd at 7 pm in Brevard, North Carolina. The game will be broadcast live on the Brevard College YouTube in Portuguese, with an English stream available as well.
