Senior Day Saturday for Tornado Volleyball

BREVARD, N.C. – Brevard College volleyball (6-19, 3-10 USA South) honored its four seniors – Kylie Katcher, Jaxson Tumicki, Mary Vallentine, and Lili White – in a doubleheader against William Peace (13-12, 6-7 USAS) on Saturday at the Boshamer Gymnasium.
 
The Tornados fell in straight sets to the Pacers in both contests.
 
William Peace 3, Brevard 0 (25-22, 25-17, 25-18)
 
Caroline Moon led the Tornado attack in the first match of the day, driving home six kills. Emma Fontana and Abigail Kelly notched five kills apiece, with Izzy Boulay tallying 14 assists. Kelly and Lili White each reached double-digit digs with 10 each.
 
Sarah Yates paced the visitors with a whopping 15 kills, joined by Aubrey Chesson's 11 kills. Maegan Brylski dished 23 dimes out and notched a double-double with 19 digs. The Pacers totaled 56 digs in the match, aided by Gracie Payne's 13 and Savannah Hairr's 12.
 
Brevard kept within striking distance for the entirety of the first set, leading late 19-18 following a 3-0 scoring run. Peace answrred back with four-straight points, capped by a Chesson kill. Trailing by four, BC trimmed the deficit to two points with kills by Boulay and Kelly, however a Hairr kill clinched a 25-22 set win for the Pacers.
 
BC scored eight of the first 10 points in the second set, but the Pacers proceeded to score 16 of the next 21 to take a five-point lead, 18-13. Peace's momentum carried it the rest of the frame, taking the second set by eight points.
 
Peace came out of the gates hot in the third set, scoring eight of the first 11. BC responded with a scoring stretch of its own, cutting the deficit to two, 18-16, capped by a Kelly kill. Peace answered back to take a seven-point set win to close the sweep out, 25-18.
 
William Peace 3, Brevard 0 (26-24, 25-22, 25-17)
 
Brevard held a four-point lead late in a thrilling first set, 20-16, looking to establish the early edge. The visitors found a response, scoring seven in a row to take a three-point lead, 23-20. BC battled back to tie the frame at 24, but a Pacer kill and a Tornado attack error gave the first set to Peace.
 
WPU opened up a 10-3 edge in the second set and led by as many as eight points twice. BC responded with a 6-0 scoring run thanks to three Pacer attack errors, a kill, and two service aces. Brevard took its first lead of the stanza, 21-20, thanks to a solo block from Elise McIntosh.  Peace closed the set out with a 5-1 scoring run, putting itself up 2-0 in the second match of the day. The Pacers completed the doubleheader sweep with a 25-17 victory in the third set.
 
Moon once again had the team-lead in kills with eight, while Madison Warren distributed 16 assists. Moon secured a double-double with 10 digs as well.
 
BC is back in action on Tuesday, October 28 at 6 p.m. taking on Pfeiffer in Misenheimer, N.C.
