Finney’s Late Winner Lifts Tornados Past Owls

Senior Forward Scores Twice to Propel Brevard to Road Win

SWANNANOA, N.C. - Senior forward Will Finney scored twice, including the match-winning strike in the 84th minute, to lift the Brevard College men's soccer team (3-3-4) past Warren Wilson (1-7-1) by a final of 3-2 on Wednesday evening at Hank Steinbrecher Field.

Finney, a fourth-year Tornado from Jasper, Georgia, contributed on two of three scores for Brevard. The individual performance marked a season-high for any Tornado in 2025, as Finney accounted for four points in the victory.

After surrendering an early goal in the 9th minute, Brevard responded with a strike in the 30th when Jerick Moreno fed the ball to Roi Abutbul to tie the match at one goal apiece. It marked Abutbul's fifth strike of 2025, and Moreno's first dime.

Only eight minutes later, the Tornados were able to take their first lead of the game as Roi Kedar fed the ball to Finney, who finished past the keeper as BC took a 2-1 edge. The Owls were able to equalize just before the half, however, as Ryan Kiser converted a pass by Steve Moodie to send the contest level at the midway point.

BC had the attacking edge in the first half, outshooting the Owls by a 10-4 tally with the Nados racking up six shots on target.

Caue dos SantosJulian Martin, and Abutbul each put shots on frame in the first 15 minutes of second half action.  BC's offense kept applying pressure throughout the remainder of action, creating several chances through the second period.

Brevard's persistence finally broke through in the 84th minute of action, as Finney delivered his second goal of the contest with the eventual match winner. BC won a corner, and after the ball sailed to WWC's possession, Finney pressed up to intercept the Owls pass and score the match-winner.

Brevard now prepares to return to conference action on Saturday with a rematch of the 2024 USA South Tournament Championship as BC heads to Cary, N.C., to battle William Peace University.
