Final Drive Falls Just Short for Tornados in 32-26 Setback to Hawks

Huntingdon Completes Comeback with 22 Unanswered Points

BREVARD, N.C. – The Brevard College football team (4-4, 2-3 USA South) drove inside the Huntingdon (4-4, 3-2 USAS) 10-yard-line with 50 seconds to go down by six, but the Tornados were unable to punch it in on fourth-and-one as the Hawks completed a 16-point comeback on Saturday afternoon at Ives-Lemel Family Field.

Trailing by 16 points with just over 11 minutes to go, the Hawks converted a critical fourth-down, scoring a touchdown and a two-point conversion to cut the deficit in half, 26-18, with 11:18 to go. Huntingdon then forced a three-and-out, and used a nine-play, 76-yard drive capped by a 26-yard touchdown pass to pull within two points. The visitors converted their second-straight two-point try to tie the contest up at 26-all with just over six minutes left to go.

BC's offense was again stifled with another three-and-out, and Huntingdon proceeded to use a seven-play, 77-yard drive to take its first lead of the game with just over a minute left to go. The Hawks would miss the PAT attempt, leaving the door open for the Tornado offense to mount a final comeback effort.

Senior quarterback Ethan Beamish completed a critical 25-yard pass to fellow senior Adam Douglas, and on the very next play found senior WR Reggie Taylor II for a 25-yard connection, setting up first-and-goal at the HC seven-yard line.

The Hawks forced a pair of incompletions, setting up third down. Zion Fauntleroy-McDaniel got the rock and took the ball to the one-yard line, as the Tornados took their final timeout of the contest. On fourth-and-one, a run play was stuffed by HC's Cameron Cooper, clinching the road comeback victory for the Hawks.

With the win, Huntingdon improves to 8-2 all-time against Brevard.

BC's veteran QB Beamish finished 15-for-30 for 227 yards and a 35-yard touchdown connection with Messiah Ramseur. Fauntleroy-McDaniel carried the rock 14 times for 77 yards, and Douglas caught seven passes for 86 yards.

Senior linebacker Baylee Ramey turned in another impressive individual performance, totaling 11 tackles with a TFL and a forced fumble. Brandon Broughton, Jadien Deaton, and Carter Raulerson each added six tackles apiece, with Curtis Bowden Jr. forcing a HC fumble and DJ Stevenson securing his first collegiate interception.

Special teams particularly impressed for the Tornados, as freshman placekicker Hayden Vandegriff hit all four of his field goal attempts (25, 39, 23, 24) and hit two extra points to account for 14 of BC's 26 points. Reigning USA South Special Teams Player of the Week Jeremyah Lane returned a punt 75 yards for a touchdown, and added a 73-yard kickoff return into the mix.

Huntingdon's Jake White completed 23 of his 40 passes for 233 yards and four touchdowns. Connor Cash caught eight passes for 102 yards and two touchdowns, while Tim McReynolds and Terrell Copeland also added TD scores. Cooper totaled eight tackles to lead all Hawks.

The Tornados compete in their final road contest of the season next Saturday, Nov. 8 at 1 p.m. in Fayetteville, N.C. against Methodist.
