SWANNANOA, N.C. - The Brevard College men's basketball team (1-2) was held in check by a hot-shooting Warren Wilson (1-1), falling by an 85-73 final score on Friday night at the Devries Athletic Gymnasium.
Warren Wilson was able to shoot an impressive 64% from the field, going 33-of-52 from the field including a scorching 23-of-34 (68%) mark in the second half. The Owls exploded for 53 points in the second half to pull away for the double-digit victory.
Malachi McLean scored his most points as a Tornado, going 8-of-13 from the field and 3-of-6 from beyond the arc to put up 23 points. Tyler Baldwin added 16 points, with Jadon Carnes (15 points) and KK Horton (12 points) also reaching double figures. Carnes stuffed the stat sheet with six rebounds and eight assists, with Horton also grabbing six boards. Those four Tornados accounted for 66 of BC's 73 points in the contest.
Tajh Williams exploded for 30 points for the Owls, making 12 field goals and four 3-pointers. Jordan Moore added 20 points and eight boards, and Asheton Glass scored 10 to combine for 60 of WWC's 85 on the night.
WWC outpaced BC in the paint, 48-38, but the Tornados scored 21 fast break points. The Owls pulled the win out despite their 16 turnovers committed.
Warren Wilson led wire-to-wire in the first half of action, taking a four-point lead into the break, 32-28. Dre-Shaun Brown's layup early in the second half gave BC its first lead of the contest, 39-37, and a McLean 3-pointer put the Tornados up by three, 45-42.
A 16-2 scoring run by the hosts opened the game up in Warren Wilson's favor, as the Owls led by 13 points, 64-51, with under eight minutes left to play. Brevard was unable to get closer than nine points, as the Owls pulled away for the victory.
Brevard is back in action next Tuesday, Nov. 18 at 7 p.m. against Bob Jones in Greenville, S.C.
