GREENVILLE, S.C. - The Brevard College men's basketball team (1-3) dropped a road contest to Bob Jones (3-2), 92-85 on Tuesday evening at the Davis Field House.
Brevard scored 50 points with 20-of-35 (57%) shooting from the floor and a staggering 10 made 3-pointers in the first half, but Bob Jones responded by going 17-of-28 (61%) with six 3-pointers, outscoring BC by 15 in the second half to take the seven-point victory.
Jadon Carnes led five double-digit Tornado scorers with 17 points on 8-of-13 from the floor. Malachi McLean poured in 16 points with four made 3's off the bench, while Tyler Baldwin canned three 3-pointers in a 13-point performance. KK Horton and Brock McKnight finished with 10 points each, and Zane Caudle drained thee 3's for a career-high nine points.
Defensively, Dre'Shaun Brown and Horton recorded three steals apiece. Brown facilitated BC's offense with nine assists and also grabbed a team-high five rebounds.
BJU dominated the glass, 33-18, and outshot the Tornados from the floor 56% to 51%. Brevard doubled up Bob Jones in 3-pointers made, 14-7, while BJU's bench outpaced BC's, 48-29. Bob Jones capitalized on the offensive glass with 15 second-chance points as well.
Bob Jones had four scorers in double figures, led by Bryson Felder's 18 points and seven boards. Dillon Harris scored 14 points, while Drew Cannon (12 points) and Braxton Murray (11 points) also reached double digits. Shad Vander Harr grabbed a game-high nine boards.
Brevard dominated the first half of action, leading by double digits most of the way taking as many as a 17-point lead at the 3:50 mark following a fastbreak layup by Caleb Duncan that put the Tornadks up 47-30. BJU responded over the final three-plus minutes of the first period with a 12-3 run to cut the deficit to eight points at halftime, 50-42.
Bob Jones carried that momentum into the second half, opening on a 17-8 tear to take its first lead of the contest, 59-58, at the 14:30 mark.
BC retook the lead with a 9-0 run to go up by six points, 67-61, but that was the last time the Tornados would hold the lead in the game. BJU rattled off an impressive 13-0 scoring stretch to retake the lead for good, going up by seven points halfway through the second half.
Brevard was able to cut the lead down to one possession late, as a McKnight 3-pointer with 1:09 left brought the Tornados within three points, 88-85. Vander Hart iced the game with a jumper, and a pair of Skelton free throws wrapped up the seven-point victory for the Bruins.
BC returns home next Monday, Nov. 24 to face Warren Wilson at 7:30 p.m. in part of a doubleheader at The Bosh.
