Guilford Hits Late Free Throws to Sink Brevard on Monday

Quakers Pull Ahead Late to Defeat Tornados

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Brevard College women's basketball (2-1) fell in a tight matchup to Guilford (3-0), as the Quakers hit four-straight free throws in the final 10 seconds and prevented the Tornados from tying the game late to earn a 72-70 victory on Monday evening at the Ragan-Brown Field House.

After falling behind the Tornados 23-10 after the first quarter of play, the Quakers responded by outscoring BC 45-29 in quarters two and three before squeaking past Brevard in the final period.

BC went 8-of-13 from the field and 3-of-5 from distance in the first period to open up a 13-point advantage. Guilford responded, shooting 50% in the second quarter to outpace the Tornados by five and cut the halftime deficit to eight points, 42-34.

GC flipped the tide in the third quarter, outscoring Brevard 21-10 as the Quakers prevented the Tornados from knocking down a 3-pointer in the period.

Brevard led by as many as six points early in the fourth, but Guilford erased that margin quickly, tying the contest up several times in the period. Anna Giannopoulou knocked in a pair of free throws with 55 seconds to play to put Guilford up by one point, 70-69, and Briahna Scott scored twice at the line with nine seconds to go as the Quakers went up by three.

The Tornados were fouled late with a chance to tie, shooting three free throws in the final seconds, but Brevard was only able to convert one of those opportunities. BC got the offensive board, but a turnover cemented the victory for Guilford.

Analee Morris exploded for a career-high 23 points on 9-of-13 from the field and 4-of-5 from distance. Olivia Miller notched her first double-double of the season with 18 points and 11 boards, shooting a highly-efficient 9-of-10. Jada Petty-Wilkins stuffed the stat sheet with 11 points, seven rebounds, six steals, and five assists.

Scott led the Quakers with 19 points and 10 rebounds, including eight made free throws and five assists. Evelyn George also reached double figures off the bench with 15 points alongside seven rebounds.

BC gears up for its home opener on Friday as the Tornados face Johnson and Wales-NC at 7 PM at The Bosh.
