RALEIGH, N.C. - Brevard College (7-23, 4-14 USA South) took the first two sets against conference foe Meredith (18-11, 11-7 USAS), but the Avenging Angels stormed back to take the next three and win in five sets inside Weatherspoon Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon.

Brevard surrendered the first five points of the opening set and faced an 18-9 deficit later in the first set, but chipped away at the deficit and eventually tied the set at 21 on a Meredith attacking error. Meredith scored the next two points, but an
Abigail Kelly kill and a Meredith attacking error evened the score again at 23.

BC scored three-straight on the back end of the set on a
Malahna Hoyle kill, an
Izzy Boulay service ace, and an
Elise McIntosh kill to end the impressive comeback effort, winning the set 26-24.

The Tornados got off to a good start in the second set, scoring the first three points capped off by a
Caroline Moon kill. The two sides went back-and-forth before BC built its largest lead at 15-10 off a Meredith attacking error. Brevard would keep Meredith at arm's length the rest of the way, ending set two on a Moon kill to take the 2-0 set advantage.

The third set was tight through the first stretch as Meredith led 11-9 20 points into the set. The Avenging Angles would build a lead as large as five after a Tornado attacking error, and Meredith was able to hold Brevard at bay the rest of the way, winning the third set 25-20.

Caroline Moon and
Jaxson Tumicki got the Tornados off to a good start in the fourth set with back-to-back kills, but Meredith scored the next five points to establish a 6-2 lead. Brevard got back within two later in the set after an
Emma Fontana kill to make it 11-9, but another four-point run from Meredith helped gain its largest lead at 16-10. Meredith pulled away, scoring nine of the final 12 points to even the set score with a 25-13 fourth set win.

Meredith got off to a favorable start in the decisive fifth set with a 4-0 run, taking an early lead. Brevard fought back, scoring three-consecutive points on two kills by
Malahna Hoyle and a kill from
Abigail Kelly to cut the deficit to one. The Tornados eventually gained the lead after a Fontana kill, but Meredith scored the next three to take a two-point edge. The Avenging Angels pulled away in the end, winning the final set 15-12.

Caroline Moon led the Tornados with 13 kills, while
Abigail Kelly tallied ten and
Emma Fontana finished with nine.
Izzy Boulay led with 26 assists and
Madison Warren added 20.

Caitlyn Russell powered the Meredith attack, finishing with 19 kills while Daven Brabble finished in double digits with 14 kills.

Brevard will start postseason play in the USA South Volleyball Tournament First Round at Greensboro on Tuesday, November 11 at 5 pm.
