INDIANAPOLIS – Brevard College Sports Information Director
Joseph Marvin has been selected as one of 30 participants across the country for the NCAA Division III Athletic Communicators Emerging Elite Program, taking place on Monday and Tuesday, December 8-9, at the NCAA National Office in Indianapolis.
"I am very honored and humbled to be selected to represent Brevard College at this program," commented Marvin, who is currently in his eighth academic year working with BC Athletics. "NCAA DIII is a special place, and I am thrilled to have the opportunity to network, learn, and take in all that this experience has to offer."
Created in partnership with D3SIDA and College Sports Communicators, the program is designed to elevate the next generation of athletic communication leaders in Division III. Participants engage in interactive sessions focused on leadership development, managing and growing a team, cross-department collaboration, and navigating the evolving landscape of college athletics communications.
"Joseph's work doesn't just inform—it elevates," stated
Dr. Myranda Nash, Associate Vice President for Athletics. "Being chosen for the Emerging Elite Program is a testament to the skill, creativity, and leadership he brings to our athletic community and campus. We are proud and lucky to work side by side with him each day"
Marvin was one of the Division III athletic communicators who were selected from all those nominated this fall by their leaders and peers for participation in the program, which is in its second year. Launched in 2024, the Athletic Communicators Emerging Elite Program is a professional development initiative hosted annually in December at the NCAA National Office in Indianapolis. In addition to the in-person program in Indianapolis, all participants will receive a one-time complimentary registration to the next College Sports Communicators (CSC) UNITE convention, held annually in June.
"For several years,
Joseph Marvin has been one of the rising stars in the college sports communications profession and to be included in the NCAA DIII's Emerging Elite is well deserved," said Phil de Montmollin, Senior Director of Public Relations at Brevard College. "Joseph's hard work, dedication, and passion for the Tornados, along with his contributions to the profession at large are to be applauded."
Marvin is currently halfway through his eighth overall season at Brevard College in 2025–26, serving as Sports Information Director since 2023–24 after five years as Assistant SID and Digital Media Director.
Marvin originally arrived at BC in August of 2018 as one of the youngest full-time sports information professionals in the nation.
Marvin covers all of Brevard College's 19 varsity-level sports. His capacity at Brevard includes managing game-day staff, day-to-day publicity, overseeing sports statistics, developing publications, programs, graphics, social media, production for live streams, and student-athlete award nominations. Over his years publicizing and advocating for Tornado student-athletes, BC has garnered over 1,000 weekly awards, all-conference, all-region, and national honors. During his Tornado career, Marvin has helped oversee over 900 live streams, free-of-charge for Tornado fans across the nation and beyond.
Marvin has aided in the execution of several hundreds of live-streamed athletic contests and other video elements, initiating the ever-growing Brevard College Tornados YouTube channel. Year in and year out, Marvin has worked continuously to set school audience records with around-the-clock athletic coverage on Brevard College Athletics' social media platforms of Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and YouTube.
In addition to these responsibilities, Marvin maintains all website content as well as the writing and publication of recaps, stories, and breaking news on
bctornados.com as well as the distribution of content to local and regional media outlets. Marvin oversaw a complete redesign of
bctornados.com, the official website of Brevard College Athletics in the Summer of 2023.
A seven-year member of
College Sports Communicators (CSC), Marvin represents BC at the annual CSC Convention – a part of the
National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics family. Marvin also regularly assists
The Scorer's Table – a company based out of Nashville, Tennessee which helps colleges nationwide fill gameday positions – working with area colleges and universities in game-day statistical, scorekeeping, and public address duties. Additionally, Marvin serves on the Associated Press' DIII Football All-America committee, alongside several Athletic Communications professionals across the country.
Marvin has assisted regional institutions such as Queens University of Charlotte, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, the University of North Carolina at Asheville, the South Atlantic Conference, Johnson University of Tennessee, and Carolina University through his work with TST.
For the upcoming 2025 football season, Marvin will enter a new role with the NFL and the Carolina Panthers, working with the NFL's Game Statistics & Information Sysyems (GSIS) Stats Crew for all nine home games (two preseason, seven regular season) at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte.
Marvin has worked several high-profile events over his Sports Media career, including the
Myrtle Beach Bowl (2024) and the
Naismith Memorial Men's Basketball Hall of Fame Classic (2021).
For the past three years, Marvin has helped run press and scorer's table operations at the Cherokee Invitational - an annual D1 women's basketball tournament held at Harrah's Cherokee Casino in Cherokee, North Carolina. Moreover, Marvin competed his fifth season in 2025 as an official scorer and MiLB gameday stringer for the
Asheville Tourists, the High-A minor league baseball affiliate of the Houston Astros.
"On behalf of College Sports Communicators, I want to congratulate this outstanding group of Division III athletic communicators selected for the Emerging Elite Program," CSC Executive Director Jason Yaman said. "These professionals represent the future of our field — innovative storytellers, dedicated collaborators, and emerging leaders who are strengthening the visibility and impact of Division III athletics. We're proud to partner with the NCAA Division III and D3SIDA in supporting their continued growth and success."
