Big Fourth Period Leads BC to Gritty Road Win

Hester Leads the Way with 20 Points, Six Made 3’s

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Senior guard Josie Hester led all scorers with 20 points as the Brevard College women's basketball team (15-5, 10-3 USA South) outscored Salem (0-19, 0-13 USAS) 32-10 in the fourth quarter to claim a 66-38 road victory on Wednesday evening.

The Huntersville, North Carolina native continued her dominant work from distance, connecting on six 3-pointers to reach the 20-point mark for the seventh time this season. It was also the fourth time in 2024-25 that Hester has made six or more 3's. In addition to her offensive output, she also grabbed five boards for Brevard.

Lexi Shepard added nine points, three rebounds, and three steals as Brevard held Salem to under 40 points, recorded 17 steals, and forced 29 total Spirit turnovers. Malayka Rankin led the reserves with eight points alongside five rebounds and three steals, while Jada Petty-Wilkins aided the Tornado defense with seven rebounds and four steals - both team bests.

The Spirits were paced by Anayah Noell, who scored 14 points. Lily Gorum grabbed a game-best 12 boards, while Cree Bass added 11 caroms.

Brevard was only able to shoot 33% from the field, but the Tornados managed to convert 10 3-pointers, and held Salem to a 1-of-8 mark from distance. BC slightly outrebounded Salem 44-38, but its defensive work proved the difference.

The Tornados held a 17-7 edge on the offensive glass, which resulted in 18 second-chance points. BC's reserves poured in 27 points, and the dominant defensive effort by Brevard led to 32 points off turnovers.

Brevard returns to the Boshamer Gymnasium on Saturday for Senior Day against Meredith, beginning at approximately 4 p.m., preceded by a special ceremony.
