GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Brevard College baseball team (1-5) fell in 10 innings to Guilford College (1-0), 13-12 on Monday afternoon at Edward H. McBane Field in Greensboro, North Carolina.

The Quakers were able to overcome a late three-run deficit, tying things up in the bottom of the eighth before walking BC off in the bottom of the 10th, erasing a two-run deficit with three runs in the frame.

Despite the defeat, the Tornados were able to plate a season-high 12 runs via a season-best 17 hits, as the two sides combined for 25 runs and 33 hits in the shootout.

Cale Oehler led six Tornados with multiple hits on Monday, as the Concord, North Carolina first baseman recorded four hits with one double and an RBI. The newly-minted USA South Conference Rookie of the Week
Tyler Kelson went 3-for-6 with a double, run scored, RBI, and stolen base, while
Lucas Granata also totaled three hits with a double, two runs scored, and two RBI.

Hayden Jennings,
Logan Sawyer, and
Frankie Vasquez each had two hits apiece, with Sawyer logging a triple and Vasquez adding a double. Five of BC's 17 hits were of the extra-base variety, while the Tornados also drew five walks in the contest.

Guilford got things going with three runs in the bottom of the first inning. Brevard answered back as Granata singled home
Easton King in the top of the second, but the hosts played another pair of runs in the bottom-half of the frame to give the Quakers a 5-1 edge.

Brevard stormed back in the third and fourth innings, scoring four runs in the third and the go-ahead score in the top of the fourth. Oehler singled home Vasquez before King's RBI fielder's choice made it 5-3. A costly Quaker error allowed BC to tie the game up, and Vasquez brought Sawyer in as Brevard took a 6-5 lead.

Guilford responded with two runs in the bottom of the fourth to retake the lead, 7-6. BC answered as Sawyer brought two around to score in the top of the fifth, tilting the game back in Brevard's favor 8-7. The Tornados added to their lead in the top of the seventh with a pair of runs, taking a three-run lead into the late stages of the contest.

The Quakers came through in the bottom of the eighth, plating three to tie things at 10 each. A wild pitch, coupled with a costly error, allowed Guilford to draw even with Brevard. Neither side was able to score in the ninth, sending the contest to extras.

Hayden Jennings, adding some insurance to BC's lead, 12-10.

The Tornados were unable to record an out in the bottom of the 10th, as a single and two doubles was all it took for Guilford to walk it off, 13-12.

Brevard returns to play this weekend with a trip to Danville, Kentucky, as the Tornados face Centre in two road contests and Carthage in neutral site action on Saturday and Sunday.
