Tornados Take Two from Wolves in Season Opener

BC Dominates Game One and Holds on in Game Two for DH Sweep

MACON, Ga. - The Brevard College softball team (2-0) kicked off the 2025 season with a bang, taking a pair of games from Wesleyan College (0-4), 12-0 and 9-6 on Monday afternoon at Wolves Field in Macon, Georgia.

The Tornados exploded for 12 runs on 17 hits in a five-inning run-rule victory in the first game, and withstood a late Wesleyan rally in game two to take a 9-6 win and sweep the doubleheader.

Several different Tornados had massive offensive outputs in the DH, with Karley Queen and Addie MacDougall leading the charge. Queen went 5-for-6 at the dish with four runs scored and three RBI, while MacDougall went 7-for-9 with five runs scored, three RBI, and two doubles in her collegiate debut. Summer Crist, Olivia Martinez, Addison Smith, and Regan Winkler all hit .500 for the day with multiple hits and RBI as well, while Elizabeth Auciello shined in her Tornado debut with a complete-game shutout in game one.

GAME ONE: BREVARD 12, WESLEYAN 0 (5 INNINGS)

Auciello (1-0) was dominant in her five innings of work in game one, allowing six hits and no runs with three strikeouts. MacDougall and Queen each tallied three hits each with two runs scored and two RBI apiece. Martinez went 2-for-2 with two runs scored and two RBI, while Anna Graves, Smith, and Winkler all collected a pair of hits as well.

Brevard's 17 hits are the program's most in a single game since April 2, 2022, when the Tornados recorded 18 at home against Agnes Scott. The shutout performance is BC's first since a 10-0 shutout win last season in North Myrtle Beach against Thiel (March 14).

Martinez got the line moving initially for BC with an RBI single up the middle in the top of the first that scored MacDougall. Graves followed suit with an RBI single of her own, making it a 2-0 contest early.

Brevard added three runs in the top of the second off a MacDougall sacrifice fly and Crist's two-RBI double. Martinez drew a bases-loaded walk in the top of the third as BC extended its lead to a six-run margin, 6-0.

BC continued its dominance at the plate in the top of the fourth, surging for a five-run frame. Queen roped a two-RBI single that was followed by a MacDougall RBI double. A throwing error allowed two more runs to come across, while Michaela Jones came in with a pinch-hit RBI single to cap the scoring off. Auciello and the Tornado defense took care of business in the bottom of the fifth to wrap up the victory.

GAME TWO: BREVARD 9, WESLEYAN 6

Graves got the ball rolling in game two with an RBI fielder's choice that plated MacDougall. The Wolves found an answer in the bottom of the frame, taking their first lead of the day with a two-RBI base knock.

The lead would not last long for the hosts, however, as BC surged for seven runs across the next two innings to hold an 8-2 edge after three. In the bottom of the fifth, the Wolves mustered a pair of runs to trim the deficit to four, 8-4, but BC tacked on an insurance run in the top of the sixth with another RBI single by Queen.

A bases-loaded walk and an RBI fielder's choice cut Brevard's lead down to three, but the Tornados held the Wolves at bay for the remainder of the contest to earn a three-run win, 9-6.

MacDougall surged for a 4-for-5 performance at the plate in game two with three runs scored and an RBI. Winkler led all Tornados with three RBI while Martinez and Queen each scored two runs apiece. Logan Masinsky (1-0) got the start in the circle for BC, lasting all seven innings with nine hits and six runs (five ER) allowed.

Brevard heads to Berea, Kentucky this Sunday for a doubleheader with the Mountaineers beginning at 2 p.m.
